good journalism in your opinion is staying home and not asking people to share their stories.

Typing this from my house in Spring, TX. Got 42" of rain in my neighborhood and managed to stay dry and keep power the whole time. Unbelievably lucky.

2 creeks within 5 miles of my house (Spring Creek and Cypress Creek) flooded neighborhoods bordering them up to 10' deep. Have several friends who lost all cars and house is flooded.

And is the 3rd major flood in 3 years in Houston.

Those barriers are ~3ft high and have gaps at their bottom to allow for draining for water. These roads weren't safe to pass when this pic was taken.

I don't agree with your take that The University of Tampa is less of a school than The University of Toledo or The University of Tennessee.

Good journalism is knowing the temperature in the ****ing room, and not asking questions with a high probability of antagonizing the interview subject into shutting down.

In all of U.S. history, there’s never been a storm like Hurricane Harvey. That fact is increasingly clear, even though the rains are still falling and the water levels in Houston are still rising.

But there’s an uncomfortable point that, so far, everyone is skating around: We knew this would happen, decades ago. We knew this would happen, and we didn’t care. Now is the time to say it as loudly as possible: Harvey is what climate change looks like. More specifically, Harvey is what climate change looks like in a world that has decided, over and over, that it doesn’t want to take climate change seriously.

I'm pretty sure that only Nicaragua, Syria and the USA don't take climate change seriously

I'm happy to see that reporter shot down - hilarious that she kept pushing the mic forward.

Plus her "question" was like "Ughh...mothers...saving kids...water...what /explain..."

Story coming out that a toddler survived by hanging on to his mother who had drowned and was floating as she was trying to get the two of them to safety

Dunno if it's true haven't seen any news stations pick it up

I have no doubt you knew this and are trolling, but just in case

"Nicaragua's reason for refusing the deal, though, is not because it wanted to burn more fossil fuels, but because the agreement did not go far enough.

The country already gets more than half of its energy from renewable resources, and plans to bump that up to 90% by 2020."

I suspect that they are deliberately trying to avoid those sorts of stories right now in an attempt to keep the focus on the successful rescue and relief efforts and keep the volunteers volunteering.

Same thing with the delay of the release of information about the officer who died when he drove into deep water. When the question was first posed, it was clear that both Turner and Acevedo were aware but did not want to discuss it, as the emotion from Acevedo the next day demonstrated. They knew the officer was in the vehicle and trapped but they could not get to him without endangering even more lives.

I suspect there will be several dozen bodies recovered as the waters recede and they can begin getting to vehicles that were underwater.

Watched a rescue attempt on I-10 where they got a woman from the center median, finally got her on the boat and she went back INTO the water. I suspect that she had been a driver of a vehicle that was underwater and she did not want to leave the other person(s). I never heard the follow-up to the story though, but watched the initial rescue live on Channel 13.

Really, Tennessee shouldn't be in this conversation at all. Can't even field a decent football team.

Build a chemical plant that can be torched by water in a hurricane and flood-prone area, and then just say "Oops!"

Unbelievable!

Turner said the next day that they didn't discuss because the family had not been notified at the time the question was asked. He acknowledged his action was intentional avoiding the question.

Job well done for avoiding the question given the circumstances.

Double redundant back up generators failed after 50" of rain.

If you're ever in charge of risk assessment planning, be sure to include 1,000 year events in your assessment and see how you get laughed out of the room for increasing the cost of business.
