I'll be in a concrete building, 2nd floor, with hurricane windows. I'm not sure if there is a better option.
There are no walls between Florida and Georgia or Alabama. Any port in a storm and all that. lol @ having to go to "Iowa or somewhere." I am sure there are better options.

Best of luck to all in Irma's path, but I would be hauling ass already. This does not appear to be a storm to be trifled with.

I have been through eight or nine hurricanes in my life, and never evacuated before. I'm going to ride this out right here in Central FL, and my parents in their house in Miami. Probably a bad idea, but I don't really see any other options right now.

Models are shifting a bit to the right of Florida and making landfall in the Carolinas.

There are models with landfalls on the east of FL and models with landfalls in the west of FL. Up to this point, the Western models have been more accurate.

So you go to Iowa. Catch a plane and spend the week playing poker in Vegas.

Seriously, watch some of the news from Texas and re-think the idea of riding this out.

If you're ever in charge of risk assessment planning, be sure to include 1,000 year events in your assessment and see how you get laughed out of the room for increasing the cost of business.
Let's see who is laughing when the dust settles from this (and probably others to follow):

Suit filed against Arkema

Look for some quick settlements in nominal amounts when the Plaintiffs are unable to find a professional that will testilie about permanent effects.

If such experts are actually found, then expect a BK filing that reorganizes Arkema under some other umbrella and leaves the Plaintiffs with nothing.

Hey does anyone know how I can get hooked up as a volunteer in Houston? No special skills, just a young male looking to put time in however needed.

Currently the best I have is an address for a center that I believe voluteerhouston is working out of.

I've signed up through a few websites this week but haven't got any contact back. I'm really not adept at using the Internet so any info my way would be appreciated. Ty

Look on Facebook in a specific field that interests you. Like, for example, say you want to volunteer by washing dishes. Search for food kitchens in Houston or something. Or if you want to do something with collecting toys, search for toy donations.

When you see something you like, send a message to whatever person seems to be in charge. Don't just click like and hope for the best. Even if that person doesn't have anything available, he/she probably will know something/someone that can use your help.

From what I understand they are hurting for workers, try and find a company to work for and get paid for it. It will most likely be a grind on your body as I've done lots of similar work, make sure to make some money for it imo.

Thanks for the tip. Will try making a Facebook account. I've been signing up for volunteer organizations online and sending emails since the numbers I'm getting are all automated. This method has been tedious and ineffective.

I've been at winstar outside Dallas. Current plan is as blank as arriving today/tomorrow and booking a room for a week, then trying to find contacts on the ground to put some time in.

My tech is old/slow and has trouble with most web page interfaces...so really any further advice or links would be appreciated. Help me help you (Houston)
