Let's not waste our time over semantics. I was close enough to be in the general ballpark. You unintentionally left out some details. Yes, I could have Googled it, but this is a discussion message board, not a post news articles board.

And this thread has morphed seemingly away from SWA boarding techniques into how to get frequent-flier status on other airlines.

There should be a separate thread for that which is completely different than the thread subject. Yes, I did bring up E**-bull****, but that is absolutely boarding related to SWA. I even posted up my personal experience pre-boarding.

You have never even flown SWA if I recall. Which makes me wonder what the **** you are doing in this thread in the first place.

SW flyers,

SFO to Vegas. Exactly 24 hr checkin B8.

I always find it hilarious how anal people are about being in the EXACT numerical order in line, even within the group of 5 sections.

Took row 5 aisle that people are skipping because no room in overheads for rollaboards. On a short flight not worth going back and hoping for empty middle.

Surprised that lots of people are taking middle seats up front while plenty of aisles and windows still available in the back.

I should really buy the advanced checkin on the way back since I am at exactly 0% of checking in around 24h in advance when in Vegas, but of course I’ll roll the dice again and fail again.

El D,

There probably a range where I'd probably nit it up on position as even a single position may be the difference between aisle/window and middle. However, B6-10 is definitely not in that range.

I think late Bs and early Cs, I might nit it up myself to be GTO. Earlier than that it doesn't matter and if you're at the very end, you're screwed no matter what.

On a trip last week, I got B29 by checking in exactly 24hrs in advance, so B8 doesn't seem all that bad.

Times where farting loudly in church are more common than times to nit it up over a SW spot in line. If you nit it up by not spending 12 dollars for an A you loose you right to be the line police in my opinion.

Perhaps. I've never actually been in a spot where it matters. My nittery is checking in exactly 24hrs before. I like aisle and I've yet to get a spot where I wasn't a virtual lock to get one.

I agree if you check in 24 on the min you are 90 plus percent to get an aisle

Sitting in row 8 allows you to be served first and closest to the front without dealing with olds/babies and is the clear GTO play

Ez game

Feeling like recent events may lower the desirability of the engine adjacent window seat making the aisle by the wing the best chance of a row to yourself.

Debating checking a bag or not.
Some of the people with mid-A assignments might also be on the 2nd leg of a multi-leg flight. Southwest allows you to check in to both legs 24 hours before the -first- leg, so you are able to check in more than 24 hours before the second leg, and will typically get an A15-25 seat for the second flight.

I was on a direct flight with two stops. FA encouraged me to 'jump on that exit row before they start boarding' GTO for southwest self-seating.

I've only done this a couple times but both times i got a lower boarding pass than my first flight..too small of a sample size to figure out why but very odd it happened both times

Southwest flyers,

Is this normal?

A50. First row completely empty both sides.

Southwest is my favorite airline by far. There is nothing better than easy no change fees online.

I don't love the boarding process but the rest easily makes up for it. It's far and away the best airline when considering customer service, price & overall experience. I don't understand why people pay the 40% premium for Delta.

My question is why do people care so much about being in the front of the plane? If you check a bag you are going to have to wait regardless. I know checking a bag is considered a no-no but I guess I have run hot and I've never had issues with a checked bag.

And even if you don't check a bag - what is the incremental time between the back and the front when exiting the plane? Like five minutes?

My seat preference:

1. Exit row aisle
2. Exit row window
3. Exit row middle (assuming the window/aisle seat are normally sized - if not, then I don't consider it.)
4. Aisle w/ no middle seat
5. Window no middle seat
6. Aisle w/ a middle seat
7. Window w/ a middle seat
8. Middle seat

The location on the plane is of lesser importance. Also, you are way more likely to get empty seats next to you if you go to the back of the plane.

Ic: it was weird. Full flight. Aisles and windows for a bunch of rows filled up already. Nobody in the first row. Was confused but figured wtf and sat down, then people immediately filled up the rest.

J: on a big plane, time off the plane from front to back can be quite a while. If I’m with family or someone that has a checked bag, I don’t care where we are on the plane. If by myself, I love being near the front. Today we touched down at 930, at the gate 935, off the plane 937, in a lyft 945.

Also depends on the terminal. Some terminals have narrow areas you have to walk through. If you’re at the front you can book it out at a solid walking pace. If you’re at the end you’re guaranteed stuck in a group of people behind olds or oblivious slow walkers.

At my most common airports I can lose 15-20 minutes easily by being in the back third of the plane (and these are small/medium planes).

Yup, especially in Vegas where missing a tram can cost you an extra 5 minutes.
