I need a rod holder for my Jeep that I can keep everything rigged up and just stop and grab it. Saw a couple DIYs using a big electrical junction box or something for the reel end but nothing that caught my 'that's perfect!' eye yet.
On the question of rod holders: I've seen quite a few vehicles with PVC pipes attached, which have caps on both ends. I figured that's what they were for, but not sure. Would something like that work?
My sister-in-law decided my brother and I needed to try fly fishing, and got us a half-day with a local outfitter this spring. I can see why you guys get so into it.
A really nice morning to be out in the cool creek and shade. Caught a couple of brookies each, and each got a nice rainbow, so a good first-time experience.
I don't think I'd ever get so into it get my own stuff, but could see renting equipment and going occasionally.
indeed the pvc pipe is a popular choice. to fully embrace your laziness though, you need some sort of big rattle-proof box on the end of it so you don't have to take your reels off.
in the meantime, i have a couple of quick fists attached to my roof rack that I can toss them in for quick trips between spots
Dead. It’s a low-end Orvis so I should be able to get it repaired/replaced but just the act of leaving it is so beyond tilting. Just unreal
Just to update, Orvis did replace the rod, no questions asked as stated on the website, and it arrived a couple of days ago. I've always felt their stuff was overpriced, but doing things like this is cooked into the pricing I suppose.

Seems like a great result and terrific customer service.
Mariposa County Sheriff had a presser today where they announced that they had died of hypertherrmia which still seems pretty unbelievable given that they were supposedly all found together. Granted the dog and the small child would be way less well-equipped to deal with extreme heat, but it seems super unlikely that both adults would just die at the same time.
Finished up a short work trip in the little town just outside Grand Canyon National Park today, so spent the afternoon in the park. Looking forward to an 8am helicopter trip over the canyon in the morning.
