Nice pic.

I assume the fly rod is dead or MIA?

I need a rod holder for my Jeep that I can keep everything rigged up and just stop and grab it. Saw a couple DIYs using a big electrical junction box or something for the reel end but nothing that caught my 'that's perfect!' eye yet.

Dead. It’s a low-end Orvis so I should be able to get it repaired/replaced but just the act of leaving it is so beyond tilting. Just unreal

On the question of rod holders: I've seen quite a few vehicles with PVC pipes attached, which have caps on both ends. I figured that's what they were for, but not sure. Would something like that work?

My sister-in-law decided my brother and I needed to try fly fishing, and got us a half-day with a local outfitter this spring. I can see why you guys get so into it.

A really nice morning to be out in the cool creek and shade. Caught a couple of brookies each, and each got a nice rainbow, so a good first-time experience.

I don't think I'd ever get so into it get my own stuff, but could see renting equipment and going occasionally.

indeed the pvc pipe is a popular choice. to fully embrace your laziness though, you need some sort of big rattle-proof box on the end of it so you don't have to take your reels off.

in the meantime, i have a couple of quick fists attached to my roof rack that I can toss them in for quick trips between spots

Just to update, Orvis did replace the rod, no questions asked as stated on the website, and it arrived a couple of days ago. I've always felt their stuff was overpriced, but doing things like this is cooked into the pricing I suppose.

Yup, no complaints other than about my own cognitive decline

Pretty sad seeing aluminum foil wrapped around the Giants while Sequoia National Park burns.

What a bizarre story. The fact the dog was found dead with the family makes it even weirder.

Mariposa County Sheriff had a presser today where they announced that they had died of hypertherrmia which still seems pretty unbelievable given that they were supposedly all found together. Granted the dog and the small child would be way less well-equipped to deal with extreme heat, but it seems super unlikely that both adults would just die at the same time.

This is from a few weeks ago on the EW. I didn't catch any of these because I suck at this. All landed by my brother and a friend.

Finished up a short work trip in the little town just outside Grand Canyon National Park today, so spent the afternoon in the park. Looking forward to an 8am helicopter trip over the canyon in the morning.

Nice pictures, mark. For anyone who hasn't been, as good as it looks in photos/TV, there's nothing like experiencing the canyon IRL.

oman

hotel prices were insane (everything there crazy expensive) so i would just pull over and setup a tent wherever possible

sometimes was closer to civilization

other times not so much

yes those are donkeys in the road

this place had such good breakfast i took a 1 hour detour to hit it up again on the way back

this is why the hotels were so expensive, basically nobody poor travels to oman so this is a typical hotel lobby

typical hotel courtyard

nature was cool

but also fun getting out into the countryside

due to nomads from the desert coming in on raids the countryside is littered with lookout towers

and plenty of forts for the locals to hide behind once they stopped the raiders

camels and goats literally are everywhere

the reason for going to oman
the omani ceremony

the western ceremony afterwards

You were invited to a wedding but instead of staying in a hotel like the other guests you camped around the country?? Pretty awesome lol

Fall River Falls between Bend and LaPine, OR. Might be beginner mode but I’ve never claimed to be Izaak Walton

Got this one on a stone trailed by a baetis under an indo

ETA: Perhaps most importantly, I was able to disassemble and safely pack away the rod before leaving.

it's been an oddly wet spring in OR so far, while the rest of the continent wants our rain
