Just went yesterday for the first time in a while. They had these boxes of Saturn peaches all over the place. So naturally, I pick one up, along with some yogurt that they said would combine well.

I sliced up a peach, threw it in some of their greek-style strawberry yogurt, and life was good. The peaches especially are just delicious, so pick some up if you are at TJ's over the next few days.

Will,

How good is that greek-style yogurt? Holy cow is that stuff delicious.

An update on my last post. Dried bing cherries are awesome. Dried montmorency cherries aren't that good.

I had a mexican chicken casserole type thing last week that was great. Sorry I don't remember the name, but it was in the refrigerated section in a small rectangular plastic tray. The top was a thick but light cornbread with chicken and black beans underneath.

The frozen teriyaki chicken wings are tasty, but a little fatty.

just had a "turkey on a baguette with apples and brie" sandwich (refrigerated section). wow. 380 calories, very interesting and delicious. it's a flour-dusted baguette, a touch of honey dijon mustard, a few slices of green apples, basic turkey, and a huge slab of brie. i won't be eating it on a weekly basis, but it's a fantastic change of pace for lunch.

Are the apples raw?

if anyone wants to be really super cool could you check if your local tj's still carries nirvana veggie burgers (in the frozen section)? I really need to know if these have been discontinued.

they weren't apple pie limp, but they weren't loudly crisp. i probably would have removed them in either of those cases.

astro,

Just had the Chicken Enchiladas in Salsa Verde. This is the one with the clear plastic wrap top, packaged like the frozen Italian stuff. It was really, really good.

This sounds awesome, I haven't seen it around my TJ's yet. There is a similar sandwhich I used to get at whole foods alot that was pretty much the same but I think had hame and not turkey. It was like 7 dollars though, of course .

Yes, this is good. I also like the Coconut ice cream they have that comes in the cocunut shells (same as the orange variety). And the frozen fruit (pineapple) is amazingly good.

Yogurt fans,

The Greek style Honey flavor yogurt is insanely great. The Greek style fruit flavors (Peach, Strawberry and I think Apricot/Mango) were all so-so.

the turkey, swiss, and spinach wrap with honey dijon and tomatoes is fantastic and not dry at all. 380 calories, best wrap i've found there so far.

the wacky-looking microwaveable meat things in the refrigerated section are great too. they have little steam spouts on the top of them. i ate the salmon one yesterday, and i've tried the chicken w/chihuahua cheese. both were excellent.

All,

Gerhard's Chicken Apple Sausage w / Chardonnay - pretty tasty stuff. Very sausagey if that makes sense. Meaty tasting. Not quite as good as Aidell's, but still very good.

TJ's Mushroom Asiago Chicken Sausage - much milder and less meaty/savory tasting than the Gerhard's, this would probably be better as part of a pasta dish or something, but still tasty.

I tried out the punjab choley yesterday. It comes already cooked in a nice foil packet and only requires a bit of heating. Good amount of spice, and who doesn't love chickpeas?

I did something unholy with it though: I mixed it with some lean ground beef. (Indian food doesn't normally contain cows.) I half expected it to create a rip in the fabric of the space-time continuum. It didn't. And it was tasty. We all need to find ways to get more healthy protein, right?

The Plain makes a good base for my 'yogurt glop' mix.

Yogurt
Peanut Butter
Honey
Wheat Germ

Stir well and eat.

Yum.

All,

Frozen Chicken Siu Mai - While not comparable to restaurant Siu Mai this stuff is very serviceable. Easy to make, with a solid, meaty taste.

Frozen Thai Style Green Curry - WOW. This looked like a loser when I opened the package, but it turned out very, very well. The spices are great and the dish has all sorts of good flavors. The chicken is fine, the rice cooked great, and the vegetables, even after 5 minutes in the microwave, are pretty crunchy. Maybe the best frozen food I've ever had.

Chocolate covered peanut-butter pretzels - seriously how can you go wrong with something like this. Great combination of sweet and salty.

Avoid:
Frozen Shrimp Siu Mai and Har Gau: The texture is off with the Har Gau, and it's difficult to get even heating with the pieces jammed in so closely together. Not purchasing again.

Anyone remember Poppernots? They were popcorn that was half popped, with softened shells and seasoning. Awesome, I guess they are no longer at TJs.

Ginger chews are good.

All,

Cinnamon Graham crackers. Thumbs up!

I have yet to find sandwich bread I like from there. Most of it is too thickly sliced and not soft enough. Great for grilled sandwiches, though.

I am currently eating the Roasted Chicken with Tortellini and Sun Dried Tomatoes from the refrigerated section. It is quite tasty.

Also, the Cinnimon Chip Scones are amazing.

TWO BUCK CHUCK!! TWO BUCK CHUCK!!
We had a wine tasting last night with my gf and best buddy. Two Buck Chuck versus a decent and popular $10 bottle (both Chardonnay) in unmarked glasses (i.e., blind taste test, although since I poured I knew). It game out very close, with gf liking Two Buck Chuck a bit better and friend liking the other. I thought they were close.

Two Buck Chuck goes up against my favorite boxed wine in two weeks

I tried the TJ's house brand canned chicken. Big can was about $2.59 and was all white meat. Made an excellent chicken salad with some onion, mayo and celery. They also have turkey in a similar can but didn't try it yet.

Usually canned chicken is just awful, earthquake food at best. Yesterday while I was picking up some milk out of curiosity I checked the local Ralph's, and sure enough most of the canned chicken was part or mostly dark meat and a lot more expensive. I didn't even bother with a taste test.
