My friends and I are having a debate over something so I thought I'd post here to get some more opinions since it kind of fits the thread.

So we're all pretty big Simpsons fans and a friend and I are almost certain that in an episode, Nelson told someone to "go back to Canadia". A few of my other friends who are also big Simpsons fans can't remember and are certain it never happened. The weird part comes when I google it, I only get 4 results on google and only 2 of those results reference it. One from 98 and one from 2017. I'm sure there's bigger Simpsons fans than us on here so hopefully someone can prove one side wrong.

"Go back to Canadia" is definitely a thing so if it wasn't Nelson that said then does anyone know where we're remembering it from? Someone please put me out of my misery.

I wrote a song one time making fun of Canadians called "I am from Canadia". That's probably what you're remembering. It is entirely possible that the idea came from the Simpsons or South Park. Was probably ten years ago or so.

Are you thinking of this?

Haha no but I'm always down to watch random Simpsons clips. I'm starting to think I've imagined the whole thing because there is no traces on the internet outside those 2 mentions on google.

Proof of what I have been saying for years. This universe isnt even real. Its some kind of holographic simulation of sorts.

We're basically a video game of some higher powers amusement.

Certainly possible, but it's also likely (and not mutually exclusive) that it's just pretty mundane and mild brain "glitches" in the way memory is handled. Nothing groundbreaking.

Ive been thinking about this tonight. There is absolutely zero doubt that it was Berenstein bears, Id bet my life on it.

How is this even possible? Apparently all the books are actually Berenstain bears now. This is honestly eerie.

I used to own some of their books when I was a kid. Obviously dont still have them. But if I did, what would the title say?

Berenstain bears?

How did the book undergo a transformation by itself. Wtf is this.

The weirdest one is definitely Froot Loops. Wtf

Froot Loops was my favorite cereal as a kid, and I definitely knew it was all O's in the name.

It wouldnt matter if they did. Thats why this whole thing is nuts. All the books, movies have all been changed somehow to Berenstain.

Despite the fact that we all know it was spelled Berenstein long ago.

It was never Berenstein. You're remembering it wrong because throughout your life you've heard thousands of names end in "stein" and barely any end in "stain".

This does make sense, but I have vivid memories of wondering if it was pronounced -steen or -stine, which only makes sense if it ended in -stein, not -stain.

Black,

You were switching it to Stein in your head back then for the same reason EK wrote.

But when I was reading these books at 4 and 5 years old, I had no idea what common last names were or weren't.

I'm guessing most of us who read the books when very young first heard the name mispronounced by adults.

Black,

Fine, then you were switching it to Steen/Stein because that's what you heard adults saying (for the reason EK outlined).

I had over a dozen of the books, had them read to me, read them myself, read them to my younger siblings outloud and read them to my own kids. So far everyone in my family thought it was with an "e" except my step mother. That said, nobody flipped out over it until I pointed out that a huge majority are wrong when asked.

Two things about that, someone posted one of those math quizzes "only geniuses" get right with pictures representing numbers in an equation on Facebook and most people get it wrong the exact same way even knowing it is a trick. This leads me to believe that when not looking for it commonly filling in blanks with the most likely info in the same way is not that weird.

The second that is pertinent to the topic, the books sucked. I realized this just now when thinking back about them. They really were not good stories or characters but through mass incorrect memories we all think they were good and read them to the next generation only because we remember them at all.
