Over three-fourths of people are remembering this wrong? What?

Pretty much this. Obviously Berenstain.

I was under the impression this was more common, I can't recall anyone in my area pronouncing the first R. Wife doesn't either. We're both very educated and grew up in eastern PA, NJ and TX fwiw. Quick check online seems to indicate he has it backwards.

OK, maybe it's because I loved German way back, but I not only read it with an E, but always pronounced it "shtine," like a German beer stein.

Re: The Great Berenst#in Bears Debate

Remember it as Bear-stain bears because they're bears so why wouldn't their name include that? Plus, they are probably pretty messy and get a good amount of stains on their fur. And, if I'm gonna say it, it's gonna sound like Bear-stain bears anyway

I've heard that joke too, but it doesn't technically make sense. If it doesn't stick to the rabbit, he wouldn't do any good as a wipe.

Re: The Great Berenst#in Bears Debate

i just experienced another universe split.

I saw Fred Willard (guy who play's Phil's dad on Modern Family) on a commercial just now and thought it was weird because I remember him dying a couple of months or so ago. I remembered reading the article on reddit and then posting it in the Modern Family thread on 2p2 and talking about how its too bad because the episodes with him were always really good. After I couldn't find anything about him being dead online I thought maybe it was actually a massive hoax of some kind that got purged from google search or something, so I went to 2p2 to look for my old post and couldn't find it...

Any evidence of Fred Willard having died is completely gone. What the ****...

Well, such a thing by its very nature seems all but impossible to falsify - how would you prove it wasn't true? I do remember it as "Berenstein" though.

Re: The Great Berenst#in Bears Debate

Can't remember what thread it was, but someone on 2+2 posted they had always thought it was WGC|Rider, not WCG, and had only then realized they had been wrong all this time. Someone else posted they hadn't ever realized they had been wrong all that time until reading that post. Another posted the same. Then, I posted the same thing. How could 4 people read someone's screen name as something else? I had it wrong for over 3 years, maybe 5. How is that possible? It's so bizarre.

In fact, when I went to Google to look Doug up just now, I typed in WGC|Rider. Weird

Re: The Great Berenst#in Bears Debate

disclosure: I don't remember the bernestain/stein bears, maybe they were before my time but a couple days ago I saw a post on fb which was a video referring to the "Mandela effect", which theorized it was due to a particle experiment at CERN that tore us all into a new universe, which put us on a new timeline and some of the things in our old past are now different.

So in addition to the bears, there were several other false memories that a large percentage of the population has, and a few of them did blow my mind, since I remember things that were either different or didn't occur. Some of them are:

The song We are The Champions by Queen: I always remembered the very end of the song went "We are The Champions.. of the world" but "of the world" never existed and it ended abruptly right after "We are The Champions". I could have sworn it ended the other way.

Jiffy peanut butter: When I was young I remember it as Jiffy, but it's actually Jif, and the company swears they were never Jiffy. Maybe not a big deal.

Mr. Roger's: I remember the song as "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood" but apparently its actually a beautiful day in "this" neighborhood. I don't know how everyone can get that wrong.

Snow White: The queen in snow white who said "Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest one of all" but now, apparently, in the move she actually said "Magic mirror on the wall"??

Maybe it's just a misconception of original content, but still a little mind blowing. The Mandela Effect could be a hoax, but it's hard to explain false memories.

Yeah, memories are weird. I remember all of those the same as you. The "of the world" thing is going to bug me because I sing that to myself a lot.

Edit: It's still in the first two verses, just not the last one. I can live with that.
