Not me.

I have three Brandywine tomato plants that are between waist and chest high, flowering, and not a single tomato yet.

I've had significant improvements over the past few weeks and I think I'm looking at a bumpah hahvest. Nothing ripe yet, but I already have about 80 tomatoes on 10 plants. Big, long, oddly shaped tomatoes.

San Marzano Redorta, which I guess are even better than regular San Marzanos because they have an extra word in the name or something.

I'm dying to make the first batch of sauce and see if they live up to the hype.

Brandywine

Supposed to be the best tasting tomato, but it looks like I'll never know.

It's ok, 'cause I'm busy adding zucchini to all the things, aorn.

I'm very excited due to the coriander that I planted months ago has finally germinated! I thought it was a write off.

Finally getting some zucchinis:

Tomatoes are doing great. Had three ripe today.

Yesterday's harvest finished off the raspberries for now but I might get another batch in September

What part of SC are you in? It's hard to describe the humidity to people that have never been here ( Myrtle Beach ) it's brutal. How do you live without an ice maker?

columbia here. A/C just stays on 24/7 in the house. i grew up in NC which is also fairly brutal during summertime, but this place takes the cake. been giving my 5x7 garden like 15-20 gallons of water per day and my tomato plants have still just been steadily hating their lives. fairly low production on them, only been able to make spaghetti sauce a couple times, salsa once. had a few fried green tomatoes and given a few ripe ones away to family. some of that low production could be due to overfertilizing with nitrogen before they got their first blooms. jalapenos are starting to come in in bigger numbers now tho.

been going bass fishing down where the saluda/broad/congaree come together, it's refreshing to wade out and hook into some stripers and smallmouth- they're a lot feistier than largemouths. idk if you do any saltwater fishing but i've never explored myrtle beach area- would def like to link up if you got some good spots

I think one of the most important things in regards to gardening is to grow things that are suited for your climate. I am currently going through the process of finding out what is appropriate for mine. Obviously it can change sometimes due to fluctuations in temperature/rain etc.

+rep. I don't fish , but if you are ever in dirty myrtle or hmu, been here since 98. I mentioned to my gf yesterday I was thinking about gardening and stumbled into tt. Great stuff ty all. Next step, wade through 200 + pages of xxxx HOA rules and find out the do s and donts.

I now have over 120 tomatoes in various shades of green, and 1 red that I picked today. It had blossom end rot. And it was mealy.

Has anyone grown asparagus? I am tempted to plant some but get turned off the 3 year wait. It's a bit ridiculous though really as I have planted fruit trees which I am going to have to wait on.

Parents grow it. Plant more than you think you'll need, if you have the space. It's delicious and we never seem to have enough!

I got some starters at Sams and they were producing asparagus at the beginning of year 3, so it took 2 years

Kristy & Yim,

Thanks for the responses. I am definitely tempted as I love asparagus and it is quite expensive. In regards to the timing I had read that they start producing after 2 years but it was best to leave them until the third year.

Oy, maybe I screwed up, they weren't big like at the stores but I assumed it was because I don't do any crazy fertilizers, etc.

Hopefully, next spring is even better.

Still kicking myself for not planting more

How many did you plant in how big a space?

I think there were 3 or 4 starters I planted in an area about 15" wide by 4 foot long.

The starters look like a dead clump of grass and I thought I had gotten ripped off but damned if they didn't grow.

Going to have to keep converting lawn to vegetable beds to make room!

I just broke in a new hoe. It's awesome, I love it. I decided to get it after seeing my elderly neighbour out in her garden using one. Her garden puts mine to shame but she is into flowers not vegetables so I take her vegies from mine and she has given me some plants and cuttings. Gardening is a great way to get to know your neighbours and fosters good relations.
