This will be the first year in a long time that the Oscars will get hosted by a someone that is not a comedian.

Hugh Jackman is hosting this year, and he has already said he will not have performing a stand up type of monologue.

The Oscars will have more of a "show" type of atmosphere this year.

Nate Silver runs a little Oscar model to predict this year's winners here, in case anyone hasn't seen it.

It doesn't seem like there will be much of a sweat this year.

I will lose complete faith in humanity if Rourke wins Best Actor. A pretty decent film tho.

I love Slumdog Millionaire, but Benjamin Button has been criminally neglected and under-appreciated, and that is the movie which will survive.

Did you like it or did you feel like you had to like it?

I felt no compulsion whatsoever to like BB. I am not incarcerated at this time!

That is a beautiful gorgeous profound movie. Open your eyes and appreciate it. IMO, as they say!

The same could be said for Heath Ledger's performance.

I seriously liked Heath Ledger's performance.
IMHO he deserves the Oscar for his rendition of the Joker.

was reading an article about how the children who play the youngest versions of jamal, salim, etc. are still living in the slums in a lean-to built with tarps and stuff. Meanwhile the movie is grossing hundreds of million.

Sick stuff.

I heard an interview with the director. He said they have set up trust funds for the kids but don't want to give the money to their parents for obvious reasons.

Rachel Getting Married is self-indulgent crap. Demme needs to return to his Something Wild Lambs roots. I don't care about the rich multicultural cliche-spouting morons in this movie, and I don't care if Anne Hathaway's character wants to self-destruct. The only thing that wedding ceremony was missing (and needed) was a well-aimed machine gun.

Yeah, I saw that too. They also got them into some school. Still, kids are some of the main actors in one of the biggest movies of the year, there has got to be a way to at least, I don't know, replace their tarp roof.
