I think you should drive extra slowly the next time and stick it to the man.

have you considered coming to a stop at the end of the merge lane and waiting for traffic to clear? or driving slowly on the shoulder?

i know this always works for whoever is in front of me when i'm in situations like this.

There is no shoulder. Cars congo down the on-ramp making it difficult to slow down. As for stopping, you still can't see traffic far enough in the distance to safely inject into the highway at initial speed of zero - this would make a driver a sitting duck.

3. Leave yourself an unobstructed run at the merge point. Stop at the entrance of the access road to allow any traffic in front of you to clear. Ignore any honking from vehicles behind you.

4. Punch it. You want your highway entrance speed to be as high as possible. 100 MPH is not unreasonable. A big fallacy in learning how to merge effectively is that you want to use caution and slowly merge in when the opportunity arises. Wrong! You want to be going so fast that you have your pick of who you want to cut in front of. Speed is power! Trust me on this.

Good luck! Make sure your insurance is paid and have fun!
this isn't funny.

Do people in the US not know how to merge?

Also, any reason why that red line should deviate?

Looks like it remains a 2 way road and the traffic from the blue line just needs to merge. As long as there is sufficient line of sight for the traffic on the red line road to see the on-coming traffic from the blue line to allow the red line traffic to merge, what's the issue here?

The answer is clear, find a different dispensary. There really isn’t any other reason to go downriver.

I have wasted my time looking at this in Google Street View. It does not look to me like an obstructed view. Yes, if you are merging from the right, you do have to look down an incline, but the trees are not in the way. Traffic from the right being on a downward slope is actually safer because it is easier for cars (and especially trucks) to get up to speed. It appears to be a standard-sized sign telling that there is merging traffic, not a tiny one. The speed limit is supposed to be 45mph on that ramp. If it is dangerous, that is caused by people speeding, not by the configuration being unsafe. You don't need to make unnecessary adjustments to make faster speeds safer. If someone in the right lane from I75 is driving too fast and is unaware, it is easy to slow down and let them pass.

If you were on I75N going to I94W, you should be in the left lane and not have to deal with merging traffic from the right, so why were you scared?

There are three issues more dangerous than the incline and fencing.

- the angle of the merge is unusually steep and linear. Most merges curve into the highway.
- in actuality, the only space where cars can be judged is after the (thick) grass ends , approximately a 50 ft. stretch
- only 2 lanes and no shoulder. M-14 is the only 2 lane merge in metro detroit that comes to mind, and you can sit as long as you'd like and stare down a mile of traffic.

Driving on 75 is not the problem and I camp on the left side on the 94 exchange. Most drivers don't seem to have this attitude, nor do they follow a "45 mph speed limit", which is a regular suburban road. Sort-of related: these are the two biggest and most maniacal highways in the D.

I've truly never seen a merge where as a driver there is zero defense or maneuverability. The trees are still idiotic though, sorry nature.

I was scared when a car slammed on its breaks to let me in. I was shocked there wasn't a way to avoid this.

. I appreciate you taking a look and caring. The merge sign should be placed further south iirc and could be larger and different than standard black and yellow.

A white painted arrow alerting drivers to GTFO of the right lane is what's needed. Perhaps a partial lobotomy for OP as well.

Road signs are standardized for a reason. Federal regulations won't let states deviate from the black/yellow or even the font used, as I understand it. It would be dangerous if they did.

What if they lowered the speed limit to 35 and added rumble strips? How unsafe is this area, really? Do you think that statistical analysis would show that this exit gets more than its fair share of accidents?

If you care enough about this, maybe you should screenshot Google Street View to give people the idea of the difficulty you think is caused by this road.

okay. an overhanging sign would be better.

both would be awesome. rumble strips >> ignored speed limit. it's the most unsafe driving spot i've seen in my life. there might not be much of a difference in accidents...traffic is usually not congested in this exchange, and there are accidents happening chronically around metro detroit.

thread is getting views, someone will properly investigate. there's a large poker faction in SE michigan. and the geometry doesn't lie, sir. surprised you didn't share screen shots of your findings, but i'll take a look eventually.

There is a ridiculous spot in Dallas where 3 lanes of a highway merge into 3 lanes of I-35E. Those 6 lanes just combine into 5 with no merge space. The right lane of 35E and left lane of the other highway just become one lane with no warning. It's absolutely the stupidest thing I have ever seen and I'm amazed people don't get killed daily.
