Isn't traveling in a straight line technically impossible unless you're situated in space?

Did I miss an explanation as to why only one side of the moon being visible* doesn't present a problem?

*It's actually something like 56% or 58% of the moon's surface that's ever visible from Earth as best as I can remember.
