How can it be this Friday if it isn't in the same week you are in?

Friday 6 days from now is in the next week, therefore next Friday.

That's like a question a special needs student would ask.
02-17-2018 , 11:10 PM
This friday = this coming friday

Next friday = the friday after this coming one, AKA THE “NEXT” ONE

jesus electrical christ

so if it’s friday and you want to refer to the sunday following saturday, aka two days from now, you’d think it’s correct to refer to it as “next” sunday because it’s in the next week?

Lol i cant. I need a drink

Being in the same week has no relevance. Both "this (coming)" and "next" are future dates.

Seriously? Are you worried that someone might time travel to yesterday?

Ok M, try this one.
Today is Saturday the 17th of Feb. Which date am I referring to if I say "This Monday"

Greg would know the answer to this.

This. And given the context, both of these refer to the same day.
02-18-2018 , 12:44 AM
This Friday and next Friday are the same damn thing.

They are both referring to the next coming Friday.
02-18-2018 , 12:45 AM
This Friday = This (coming) Friday
Next Friday = (The) Next Friday (that appears)

They refer to the same date. Especially true in M's neck of the woods.

Friday a week = A week from this/next Friday. Same locale as above.

Bill Walton is in rare form calling the UCLA men's basketball game tonight.

"blah blah blah UFOs. Are you a UFO guy?"

Partner: "No. Well I wasn't. Until I met you."

If Larry says " I'm banning you this Friday"

Is he banning you on the 16th (yesterday) , 23rd or the 2nd of March...?

Edit:You're on the west coast and it's still Saturday.

Edit 2: D) little dick Larry isn't banning me because this Friday doesn't exist on a Saturday.

Putting it in a context she can understand. Well done!

If it is Sat Feb 17th and you say "this Friday" that is referring to Feb 16th because it's still this week.
If you say "this coming Friday" that is the same as saying "Next Friday" and you are referring to Feb 23rd.
02-18-2018 , 01:25 AM
So if I say, "you wanna hang out this Friday?" I'm asking if you would have wanted to hang out yesterday?

M,

You're incorrect.

Your friend wins.

This Friday always refers to the next Friday coming. Wth at it referring to a past Friday. You have to be trolling.

No silly. In that context it is the implied "this coming Friday"

Here is the conversation:

Friend: "When is the dance thing?"
Me: "It was this Friday."
Friend: "So, it's this Friday and we can go?"
Me:"No, it's not next Friday it was already this Friday"
Friend:"Was? So, it's this Friday?"
Me: "No!!!!"

Pay up and be thankful you didn't bet more than whatever you lost.

Of course when you use the past tense it is not this coming Friday, in which case you'd say, it was on Friday, and not, it was this Friday.

Mbabs,

Have you cluttered up enough threads yet trying to make Code jealous?
