Quickest way to lose weight: Eat a diet of mostly protein, fruits, veggies. No bread, pasta, pizza, processed foods or at least keep those as close to zero as possible.

Then walk 10,000 steps per day. Walking is the best exercise for dropping pounds if done consistently. Walk before work, during lunch and after work.
I've lost a lot more than 40lbs that way.
