Here is USA#1 it is pretty common in the Dirty South to sign documentation allowing teachers/principals to strike your child with hands/belts/paddles and whatnot as a form of discipline. Lol Dirty South, but still common in 2019.
I refused to sign the consent form for our kids to be subject to corporal punishment. My wife was undecided (she acquiesces to "authority" much more quickly than I do), but she followed my lead.
I could see no rationale for consenting for someone else to do what I had felt no need to do myself.
When I get together with some of my old high-school friends we reminisce about the paddlings we received in school (and at home). We all agree that they were terrible experiences (especially from the coaches), but my friends almost unanimously say that schools today need more corporal punishment.
The memory that sticks out most to me was getting a couple of licks for not doing a homework assignment. After the second lick, I clearly remember that if he told me to bend over once more that I was just going to leave school for the day. That probably would have played out terribly, but thankfully I didn't have to make that choice. Runner-up memory: bruises on my butt.
