What about Star Trek II, III, & IV?

Yes, I know, there are more than three Star Trek movies (there are more than three Star Trek SERIES, FFS). But you can make a decent argument that unlike any other sequence of ST movies, these three are the only ones where the plot from the previous movie ties into the plot of the current one - Wrath of Khan answers the question "What the hell happened to Khan?", the Genesis planet is born, and Spock dies; Search for Spock has the gang back at the Genesis planet and the resurrection of Spock; and The Voyage home has them reintegrating as a gang with Spock and using the Klingon cruiser to go home, where Kirk is demoted back to the rank and ship he always wanted - captain of the Enterprise.

These are the only three ST movies where if I want to watch one, I want to watch all three.

Just a thought. It's not the best trilogy by any means, but it's not the worst either, if you like ST/sci-fi.

what do you think about JJ Abrams' Star Trek? I never got into the original Star Trek but enjoyed JJ's reiteration.

I was disturbed by what they did to Vulcan but otherwise enjoyed it. Not superb, but a decent reboot. I'm somewhat disappointed they haven't followed up with any more movies yet.

Getting into the original Trek is difficult at this point since it's so dated, but I got into as a kid so I can overlook the obvious deficiencies and enjoy the nostalgia. Of all the original movies, though, II/III/IV are the ones most worth watching. If you enjoy sci-fi at all (and can overlook the fact they were made in the 80s) I think they are still worth watching.

The newer star trek movie was pretty impressive. Hopefully they make more like that

What? no Red, White, and Blue (Trzy Kolory) by Kieslowski?

They're working on a follow-up! Should be out next year.

I haven't seen them but have heard so many good things about it that I will need to check it out.

Actually, I was semi joking. I haven't seen Red. I saw Blue many years ago and didn't love it, but I probably didn't have enough patience then. White is much less artsy and I liked it ok when I saw it, but that was a long time ago a well.

Though I have about had it with young adult fiction like comic book and fantasy movies and aside from maybe The Godfather would rather see this arty trilogy than anything else itt.

Godfather is my favorite movie series by far. I even enjoyed the story that unfolds for Michael in III... Whereas most die hard fans hate it as its not the storyline they grew to love. But to say the Trilogy is the best is a mistake. The acting by the daughter in III is absolutely garbage. Almost unbearable.

For me Bourne series has the same high level of standards for acting/directing/writing/fightscenes/carchases in each of the 3 movies. Not a moment of disappointment across the board.

I guess reading every ones picks tho the best Trilogy should really be classified further to category. Trying to argue with a fantasy fan that Bourne is better that LOR or StarWars is pointless.

Star Wars
Indy
LOTR

These three have the highest average quality over the three pieces IMO.

Raiders
Empire
BTTF

are the best individual films there.

LoTR is probably the best 3 movies in terms of consistency as they were all good (tho I havent watched them in yeeears so maybe im memory biased). Indiana Jones 2 sucked. Dark Knight 2 vastly superior to 1 and 3. Lol at BttF 2 and 3. Matrix 2 and 3 are a huge drop off from 1. So Id probably go LoTR as the best, bet def not my favorite. Id take diehard over LoTR. 2 isnt as good as 1 and 3, but they are all enjoyable rewatches.

Ive never seen any of the godfathers but not sure how anyone can mention it since all ive ever heard is how godfather 3 is one of the worst movies ever made.

Really close between LOTR and Dark Knight

If I were to rate all the movies against each other it would prolly be

TDK->ROTK--------->Two Towers-->TDKR------> Fellowship= Batman Begins

I really can't believe that CGI crapfest is winning. The first movie was good but after that it just got so cartoony that it seemed made for children.

Scream Trilogy (1, 2, 4) is missing, it's a solid entry.

Batman is complete fail because it's just a great movie sandwiched between two awful movies. By that logic Godfather should be included as a trilogy.

my rankings (individual parts ranked in parenthesis):

1. Star Wars (2, 1, 3)
2. Indiana Jones (3, 1, 2)
3. LotR (1, 2, 3)
4. The Dark Knight (1, 3, 2)
5. Bourne Trilogy (3, 1, 2)
6. Toy Story (1, 3, 2)
7. Back to the Future (1, 2, 3)

Toy Story 1 resonates a lot with me. I liked 2 and 3 but didn't really care about them.
Back to the Future 1 is amazing but 2 and 3 are awful.

Empire Strikes Back and A New Hope are my two favorite movies.

My god even adding the last three nonsense sentences without addressing it. As a fellow troll who strives for great hijacks like that I have to take my hat off.

It's simply beautiful.

Foundation trilogy by Isaac Asimov

Rama trilogy by Arthur C. Clarke

sci-fi credentials are lacking if you haven't read those

Foundation while great is technically neither a trilogy, nor is entirely written by Asimov.

Rama is whatever. I think there are more than 3 books total though?

I like Dune as a sci-fi trilogy pick
