What's your favorite trilogy, now that some of us have had a chance to view the last installment of the Nolan Batman trilogy? And don't nit it up by saying Batman is technically part of the franchise and thus shouldn't count.

Some notable candidates:

PS: I excluded The Godfather because I think there were only two real movies.

how is the matrix not it's own option?

I actually struggled a long time wrt this. I really enjoyed the first one (story, novelty, action, cinematography) and thought second one's action scenes were amazing, I thought the story for the last two to be fairly crappy.

Then again, it doesn't cost anything to add an extra series. So maybe I should have added it.

interesting. I'd imagine that most of us have seen the entirety of the listed trilogies. probably the most viewed 'genre'...

my rankings (individual parts ranked in parenthesis):

1. Star Wars (2, 1, 3)
2. Indiana Jones (3, 1, 2)
3. LotR (1, 2, 3)
4. The Dark Knight (1, 3, 2)
5. Bourne Trilogy (3, 1, 2)
6. Toy Story (1, 3, 2)
7. Back to the Future (1, 2, 3)

Toy Story 1 resonates a lot with me. I liked 2 and 3 but didn't really care about them.
Back to the Future 1 is amazing but 2 and 3 are awful.

Empire Strikes Back and A New Hope are my two favorite movies.

yeah , back to the future over matrix is a off, but it's either neither or both, in my opinion. nobody should be voting for them anyways

I haven't seen TDKR yet, so for now it's The Lord of The Rings

Also, Godfather should definitely be on there! Godfather 3 is better than BttF 3 ....

edit: actually, it shouldn't be, as it wasn't really constructed like a trilogy. too far apart, different leads, etc.

I would pick Toy Story over The Matrix. All of the Toy Story movies were decent and I can watch them multiple times. I have NO desire to watch The Matrix Reloaded/Revelations ever again.

LOTR (2,1,3)... Closely followed by TDK. (2,3,1)

wow love this (ranking the individual films within each trilogy!).

re: LotR: last time I watched the extended version in one sitting and it was just a one awesome film in my mind so I can't really judge which one is the best. I am really surprised you have that under Indiana Jones.

well my thinking (which, a lot of times could be flawed when it comes to movies) was that people don't HATE BttF as much as Godfather III.

response to edit: and yea, that too. the third one just threw me off completely and one of the reasons why I don't have one of those collector's items for the films. ugh

No idea. We watched it in bed fwiw. I had food within reach and bathroom breaks in between while changing the discs. Granted, we did it over a long weekend and basically slept a whole day afterwards. To say it was draining would be an understatement. Counter-strike trained me well.

Polanski's "Apartment trilogy" for me, followed by "The Vengeance Trilogy" by Park Chan-wook.
