I wish they had a stand up only category so I don't have to wade through all the hideous movies! It seems like it can take a while for some random goodie to pop up in your queue that hasn't before.
I saw Louis C.K. in Washington, DC on Friday night. Really great show. He was hilariously dark. He started with bits about abortion and then did a joke about 9/11 deniers that was fantastic.
The openers were Mark Normand (awesome, though it was material of his that I had seen before), Joe List and some woman from NYC whose name I didn't catch.
Louis C.K. was filming a special that night. Tickets were only $50 and it was at DAR Constitution Hall. Great venue.
I saw him in Richmond nearly four years ago and he got a standing ovation. I didn't think he deserved one--he wasn't quite that good. But he was phenomenal on Friday.
Neal Brennan (Co-creator of Chappelle Show and co-host of my favorite podcast, The Champs) had a new special earlier this year, 3 Mics, that just dropped on Netflix. He has three microphones used throughout the special. 1 is a monologue/therapy mic, another is for one-liners, and the last is for comedy bits. Definitely worth watching.

this is going viral today, so i figured i'd post it, but it's just awful. i like this comment on reddit:

Finally! A purpose to all those Eng Lit/Creative Writing degrees! Set up a Youtube channel and apply the same tedious sixth-form analysis to stand-up comedy etc. Genius! Don't forget to slowly suck every iota of wit and spirit from the subject in the process.
when i saw louis over the summer, i didnt know who was opening for him. a couple comics open first, and then they introduced joe list and i thought "wait...joe?"
joe had been on the show i used to produce (that spaceman was on) a few years ago. told the same joke i heard him tell in the backroom of a bar, but this time it was in MSG in front of 18k+ people opening for louis ck.
It is kind of a trip how small the circle actually is in stand up.
I'm doing shows in what may as well be the middle of nowhere and in 2017 I will probably open for multiple people that will in turn open for stadium level headliners.
a few years ago i was in a variety show thing, i did a stand up set and a couple improv teams after me. there was one team that was great, and me and some friends were like, hey that one girl was really awesome.
turned out to be sasheer zamata and no more than 2 weeks later she was on SNL
I did a comedy festival with Sasheer a couple months after she got SNL. I was hosting, so I said to her "I know this is silly, but I have to ask... how would you like me to introduce you? Any credits you want me to mention?" which is a totally standard host question, but obviously a completely insane thing to ask someone who just got cast on SNL. We both just started cracking up at the absurdity of it.

Agreed, this was cringeworthy.

Yeah, this is what is so cool about stand up. Even as I get higher in the game, it still never ceases to amaze me how many incredibly talented, famous, or soon to be famous people I get to interact with or befriend on a daily basis.

Really want to see this. Brennan was on a podcast last week called The Mental Illness Happy Hour. He talked about this special and all the dark **** from his childhood that made it possible.
Also talked about Chappelle and how he was really butthurt how Chappelle handled the negotiations with comedy central.
