the Orpheum downtown.
also, the guy in front of me was on something cuz he couldn't hold his giant head up at all.
literally every 2mins it would flop over completely and rest on his shoulder and so for the entire show I had to keep moving my whole body to see around his absurdly large melon.

jfc I hate ppl so much.

also this dumb bitch kept standing up and clapping like she was in a Baptist Church it was so godamn annoying.
you could tell she thought her and Amy were "sisters" it was so bad.

I feel like I'm becoming a cranky old man but I just get so annoyed anytime im around a large group of ppl (except at hockey games for some reason).

also on a totally unrelated note I may have been the only str8 male in the crowd.

there were a TON of gay men and women and then the largest collection of fat women I've seen in my life.
not to be a dick but it was insane to see so many women and literally not a single attractive one among them.

Yeah, Amy being a bit chunky (but still hot) makes her their queen. But they don't realize they need a personality to go with it!!

She is one of those that I probably won't bother seeing unless it's the right situation. It's why I was initially considering not going to see LCK at Irvine. I wish I would have now, but stadiums and comedy feel wrong.

We need a Comedy Cellar out here.

Saw Hannibal Buress last night. Real solid show with some great material. He's at his best when he goes into one of his long winded rants that devolves into absolute craziness. He didn't rehash any of his previous stuff but I could definitely see how some people wouldn't prefer him. Different kind of delivery and sense of humor.

Towards the end of his act he says "Now at this point of the show depending on who you are I've got some good news or some bad news." He pauses and a guy up top insta yells out "Bad news first!" Hannibal chuckles and pipes back "Well we all know whose a ****ty listener." and proceeds to rag on him for a few minutes in playful yet precise fashion.

He also has a DJ out there with him the entire time and uses him at periods of the act. Specifically during bits where his jokes tie into certain rap songs or music in general. The show had a lot of gears to it but for the most part had a solid flow. Guy named Jerome Russell opened and killed it yet couldn't find a damn thing on him when I searched.

Doug Stanhope needs a little more love in this thread imo.

I've spent cumulatively years singing Stanhope's praises to anyone within ear shot.

For anyone not sure of who he is, a very easy and "gentle" introduction is "Something To Take The Edge Off" then probably "No Refunds".

After that, tread lightly! I think he is just as important as Hicks was in his heyday. Even more so, based on his body of work.

doug literally used to be my fav and I saw him crush live in SF many years ago but sadly in recent years I enjoy him waaaaaaay less.

it's very strange and drastic change and I'm not entirely sure what happened.

I think a lot of that is that as we get older, we're not usually as angry. I still love him just as much as before, probably even more so. But I don't listen as much for laughs as the anger and passion for the material. I don't even laugh a ton at his stuff. But I'm fully engaged every time.

I was able to see him on two different occasions (about 6m apart) last year. I thought he killed both times but I agree that his material has definitely changed and he seems to do a lot less of the social/political commentary and more ~general dirty comedy. Doug has mentioned in sets that he thinks he's more or less run out of important things to say.

When he's not ****faced his timing and delivery are still top notch. He has the best closers of anyone I've ever watched.

Yet another comic with a fantastic podcast. Stanhope and his wasted buddies telling road stories or ****ing around at city council meetings in Bisbee is the best.

I love Buress...listen to him on Pandora. I gotta ask though, did he ever get to what he was talking about with the thing that could be considered good news or bad news?

I've always been a fan of his work, especially his rants about religion. But I saw him live in a small venue in Falls Church, Virginia a little over a year ago and his performance was flat. Could have just been an off night or maybe my expectations were too high.

Jay Oakerson is the best with crowd work I've ever seen. I've seen him plenty, and only once was it an actual bit. Most of the times it was just off the cuff crowd work where he killed it. You can tell he is just comfortable talking and quick witted. I wish he wanted to be a bigger name.

This. I saw him in NYC a couple of months ago. I was lucky enough to be in the easiest spot for all the comics to make fun of me. It was a lot of fun.

Can someone give me the name of a good Kevin Hart set? I tried watching one from 2010 and one from 2011, and it was awful. Just not funny, meh delivery, always agitated without it ever being amusing. Willing to accept that those 2 were just mediocre.

I think "I'm a Grown Little Man" is amazing. Easily one of the best from that year. "Seriously Funny" is good, but he starts to have catch-like-phrases and those can get a bit grating. "Laugh At My Pain" is only pretty good. "Let Me Explain" has an odd intro, but better then the previous 2.

He's an amazing comic presence, even if the material isn't always up to par.

Saw Chappelle over the weekend. Pretty good show probably only second to demetri Martin of the comedians I've seen live. Supposedly some of the shows were filmed for a possible special. He did 6 in 3 days.

I love all the Kevin Hart specials but the one at MSG with the fire was all kinds of awesome. "Get fire on these bitches"

The only knock I have on him is he repeats himself too much if something's funny which just happens to be a ton of his material.

I mean, on the one hand you know it'll be so bad that it's good and if there is a God Screech should get heckled to the point of mental breakdown, I just don't see a whiskey hangover on Thursday being worth even that.
