is there anyone else on that list that we should see maybe instead of Garofalo or Mark Little and Kyle Dooley?

i'm going to this too with a bunch of friends. we all have tix but will likely end up going to different things throughout the event because we won't be able to coordinate each night.

we picked Aziz is the headliner.
have also registered for Jeselnik, Colin Quinn, Hannibal Buress and Bill Burr.

with regards to the last 4, apparently if you 'check in' with your phone you get your credit back. so in essence you can go to a lot more of those events. not really sure who i want to see. i should do some more research, and i guess a lot of it will come down to timing. jeselnik is the only one i for sure want to see.

Louie, Todd Barry, and Birbiglia are all great. Paul F Tompkins is my favorite. DC was right about his HBO special Driven To Drink, outstanding. The man has great stories and I believe them, not that that matters.

I'm a huge Cross fan, but I'm always underwhelmed by his stand up.

Aziz is very talented and a funny guy, but I just can't relate to/don't like his material. Too old and white maybe?

Cross's two CD's were excellent. That was kind of the beginning of the popularity of alternative comedy. Very topical, but necessary at the time.

Aziz is a very funny guy, but he doesn't translate that into standup. I think him just riffing would be better then anything he's done on stage. There are a few moments in some of his bits where you can sense something real, but it goes away quick. If his next special doesn't kill, I don't think I'll bother with anything he does after that.

Sure glad to see this name. Saw him in Seattle this summer and he was extremely funny.

Didn't think I could get this late in the thread and not have anyone mention Russell Howard.

Given his age, I'd say he's one of most naturally gifted comics on the planet. Probably only Aziz has gotten so good so fast, when you consider that it took Louis CK a couple of decades to get to where he's gotten. To have something like 5 or 6 hour+ long bits in your 20's is absurd. Maybe a dozen comics have ever done that (and been televised).

Howard is held back by the speed of his jokes and his accent. I think he's never made a dent in North America because of it. He also went straight to TV as soon as the chance came up, so I guess we'll never know what his ceiling was. But as his peak, man he was a monster. I can't recall if this clip is one of his better ones. Tons on youtube:

I suspect he'll keep doing more standup (perhaps he still does). Bucket list item of mine, I've seen everyone else but Jeffries.

Btw one of the best touring pro comics (from a technical perspective) is Tom Papa:

There's a reason Seinfeld choses him to open, but he's also a sick headliner. And since I said his name, Seinfeld is still at the top of his game. Obviously Seinfeld is a love/hate thing, but there's not a comic on the planet that can make a crowd laugh that hard without saying "****" or "****". That's an art, it really is. Saw him last year, and outside of his "sucks/great" bit which he's been doing for 10 years, the whole set was awesome.

If you guys haven't seen this, Seinfeld + CK + Rock + Gervais:

Couple of people that I've worked with who aren't well known yet, but easily accessible on YouTube.

Steve Macone
Al Park - he will be famous one day, easily the funniest natural comic I've ever met
Joe List - he is pretty successful now touring with a bunch of name comics, but this guy is hands down the funniest comic I've ever seen do a set.

Great stories about CK.

He just casually called the Seinfeld show. Lol

Seinfeld story is pretty funny. Im excited that hes thinking about doing another movie though.

Glad Cap got mentioned. A few days ago one of the guys I buy weed from tried to give me my change in 2 dollar bills. I thought of this joke and told him to give me more weed.

One of my favourites. Probably more funny if you have been to London and seen this sort of thing.

awesome, you're welcome, and i'm glad you're enjoying him. i saw him again last sunday, for the 4th time (two plays, two pure standup). guy is great, just a really special talent.

edit - there isn't really anything beyond his bandcamp (at least not official). that's the way he rolls.

That's part of what I'm liking about him. It means far more to him to do it then it does to be heard doing it.

No one mentioned him because he isn't very funny. He is just very average. He has literally never been in the top 3 stand ups appearing in a single episode of mock the week imo. He isn't even the funniest british comedian called Russell! He is the archetypal modern panel show comedian with very little else to offer they seem to be growing in number these days. Considering most of those shows are largely scripted its an annoying trend.

Glad to see Stewart Lee get a mention. He is an absolute twisted genius. Simon Amstell is incredibly funny and under appreciated overall. Best buzzcocks host (apart from wogan). Lastly I'd like to further recommend Dylan Moran. When he can be arsed he is amazing. Tommy tiernan was also superb but I'm not sure he is working in stand up these days.
