I have only seen or listened to Shakespeare as I recall, so I am not sure if everything was new. It was very good, he did an hour or so after the MC and two middle acts.

Man, I like John Mulaney, but if you are familiar at all with his standup stuff, this show of his sure does suck balls

I was there too and can confirm he killed it. He also absolutely destroyed this girl in the front row who wouldn't answer him when he asked her if she knew what a moneyshot was, was hilarious.

Rafiki I thought you were located in Mtl. Did you just come to Ottawa for the show?

Bill Burr, Dave Attell and a couple others are performing at The Comedy Store in LA. Tickets are only 20$. I'd be all over that if I was anywhere near there.

That's a sick bill. I might have to go. When is it?

Watched Chelsea Handler's new special on Netflix. I didn't really know who she was, but the special was okay. I wiki'd her to find out more about her, and goddamn she was a freaking knockout early on. She still looks pretty good, though.

It's worth a watch if you've got nothing else going on.

Bill Burr has a unique style and a guy that opens for him a lot Paul Virzi is an up and comer.

I have it DVRed but haven't gotten around yet to see it. I did see him perform a few days before it aired. He headlined a show at the Comedy Store with a bunch of friends of his also performing, like Neal Brennan. The show was to celebrate the upcoming special.

Great show, and it had a very freeflowing feel to it. When a lot of the comics were up there just riffing on some ideas, one of the other stand ups from the crowd would do some back and forth with them.

Jerrod was really goddamn funny, and had a great way of interspersing his bits with funny ideas coming to him off the cuff. He told a story about having recently hung out with Bill Cosby at his home and spending the night, and then riffed on a funny idea of realizing the next morning that he'd been drugged and taken advantage of.

He's a very likable presence and has a low key confidence about him, like a young Dave Chappelle. My friend, who is good friends with him, did see the recent special and said that he didn't think he came off very well. It was as if the powers that be told him to really milk his likability and low key vibe, and so his material was a bit underplayed. It felt just a bit too unstructured.

Ok so couldn't give my Jefferies review without first being Bare. I had avoided Bare because I was worried it would be the same act. The crazy part is it wasn't! He did almost 2 hours last week, and I believe there was about 5 mins of material that overlapped. That kind of blows my mind. Was also the first time I had ever heard him talk a bit about some of the stuff that might be behind his depression. So outside of the fact that his dad hugged him exactly 3 times in his life, he was molested as a kid. He's never lied about his other personal issues before, so I have no reason to suspect he'd have fabricated this for comedic purposes. The dude is starting to make a lot more sense to me now. He's lead a craaaazy life. The act itself had a lot of jokes about Hank (the new baby), but I didn't find them as a annoying as a lot of baby acts. Probably because he's decided not to clean his act up at all, even despite the new baby. I guess Bare also had a lot of that. Was also pleasantly surprised how little the crowd tried to yell **** while he performed. It's weird that in 2014, that's a pleasant surprise. People are usually such a massive pain in the ass at comedy shows.

In the linked interview, Jefferies says that he tries to stop doing material live once it's in a special.

Not sure if you can classify it as traditional standup but has anyone seen Bo Burnham live? I've seen his "What." show online but haven't heard much about how good he is live. I'll post my thoughts on him after I see him in a couple weeks but I'm interested in people's thoughts about him.

He's been talked about a little in this thread. When "What" came out, there was a bit chat about him.

I think very highly of him. "Words Words Words" is goddamn brilliant. "What" is damn good as well.

I really, really enjoyed the special. Laughed a good amount and really liked listening to his thoughts on things, like Beyonce listeners, how talent is more important than morality (I thought the lead in to this bit was awesome), and how he relates to what Donald Sterling was saying privately in his home about.. "black people." I definitely recommend watching it, I feel like he's going to be pretty big.

i have seen bo live 3 times, super good. the first time was when he was about 19, back in 2009. i was super familiar with his stuff but he was relatively unknown. he was headlining some sort of small 'gala' at the melbourne comedy festival and blew everyone else onstage that night away.

For sure. It sucks that the crowd wasn't that into it. It was as if they didn't want to laugh at the more controversial stuff because they knew they were being filmed for the special.

I had totally forgotten about him! Man what a freak in terms of talent. I was not remotely surprised to see that his education was prep school followed by Arts School. You don't get that sort of quadruple threat of skills without strong formal background in all that stuff. It's rare that I'm jealous of someone's upbringing, but man that's the kind of education I would have been thrilled to have. Arts was never going to be something recommended in my family, but I would have thrived in that environment.

Gotta root hard for Bo, he's awesome.

He was easily the best part of that episode as well. I never saw his MTV show, and probably won't but it's kind of tempting.

His CCP is well worth checking out. I was flipping through channels and stopped on CC when his special was ending. I heard the line:

"Love is, bein' the owner of a company that makes rape whistles and even though you started the company with good intentions trying to reduce the rate of rape, now you don't wanna reduce it at all cuz if the rape rate declines you'll see an equal decline in whistle sales. Without rapists, who's gonna buy your whistles?"

I was kind of blown away and been a fan since.
