Forgot to mention Conner O'Malley's Stand Up Solutions when it came out a few months ago. Definitely not for everyone but worth a chance!

He got popular as a sketch performer, here's a great example to test the waters.

I think this is the one you're talking about

Overall, I don't think it was better than the more recent one that was posted. But the impression of Lewis Black reading from a 14 year old girl's diary (@ 36:15) was great.

Sandra Bernhard was also there... Thanks for posting what a cool snippet, I wish Patrice lived a bit longer, RIP

Man, Patrice was an a hole. And not very funny on top of that.
There's just so much anger and self hate there.

I hear so many comedians talk about how funny he was but I don't see it.

I won't lie, I think there's some truth to your comments on the anger and self-hate thing. Obviously, I don't know, but the guy definitely had his battles, it seems like he gave into some of them rather than trying to move forward. He had some great insights but also some pretty awful views. That said, he was hilarious, and there's something endearing about someone so willing to put it all out there.

Have you seen his HBO One Night Stand? The first five minutes are gold.

Got another one of those spam emails from Louis CK and he was raving about Adrienne Iapalucci’s new special. And he’s right! It’s really freaking good! I remember her a bit at the MSG show and she was decent enough. She’s great in this one.

Never heard of her and just watched a few bits. Good stuff.

Those spam emails are always hilarious, he really laid it on thick for her

I enjoyed the new Amazon Prime Jeff Dunham holiday special.

I also watched on Prime, Nick Swardson's 2023 (?) comedy special and it was ****ing hilarious. I've always enjoyed him in Adam Sandler movies and his acting in Reno 911.

Some damn good specials out recently.

Anthony Jeselnick’s was great. He hadn’t put out anything on quite awhile so it was nice to see that he still has it!

James Acaster’s was great as well. From the beginning, the audio was so off putting that I was considering not continuing, then something happened that thrilled the retired sound guy in me.

Jim Gaffigan’s newest was really good as well. And I think it might be his 2nd one this year.

Patrice was hilarious. There's so much gold of his on YouTube. He was just naturally funny. A lot of comedians can make a halfway decent special if you give them six months or a year ,a couple of writers etc but they really aren't that funny or quick witted. Patrice in random interviews or radio appearances is funnier than most comedians at their best.

Can't disagree on the self hating part though unfortunately.

Awesome! Love all of those guys, especially James Acaster. If you like him, very highly recommend his book 'Classic Scrapes' (+ his other books are good too).

Acaster is similar to Bo Burnham for me in that I’m honestly nervous to watch their latest works. Both have moments where they hit on something that could crush me lol

Not that they have (Can’t Handle This Right Now and Acaster’s bit about relationships aside) but I know that they can.

I was watching some Robin Williams interviews and was reminded of how quick he was. I don't know if there's anyone else who worked so well off the cuff. He'd just fire away non-stop and had a joke for everything. And they'd all be funny! There may have been some prepared ones every now and then, but given how the conversations went, most of them happened on the spot. Even if some concepts had been thought of prior to a conversation, he was able to locate the file in a split second. What a talent!

What other comedians had this quality? I'd love to watch some interviews. Bill Burr definitely falls into that category and makes some hilarious observations but wasn't nearly as clever. Dangerfield's another good one but far too prepared and less engaged to be considered on the same level.

I haven't really liked a living stand-up since I soured on Louis CK and Norm MacDonald died, but now I'm liking Gary Gulman a lot.

Edit: uh I take that back, I probably still like Bill Burr but I haven't seen his recent work so maybe not.

Gary Gulman is elite!! Such a great writer. Both of his appearances on Mike Birbiglia’s podcast are fantastic.

Gulman's Conan bits on state abbreviations and role playing are 10 out of 10
