Netflix CEO with the half apology is about right. I really hope it sticks to the idea that it's safe content, and doesn't bend. I don't mind if he apologizes for hurting staff, that makes sense.

Everyone needs to realize the morons asking to cancel chapelle are like 2% of the population. The rest of us really dont give a **** or have much of an opinion (one way or another) on chapelle. Cancel culture = whoever is the loudest

The issue is they are moving the goal posts for the rest of us inch by inch. That much is obvious.

Think about the amount of comics who would never risk a trans joke now.

female friend really tried to get me to give some female comics a chance

<=3 so bad couldn't enjoy drunk in a live setting (joe rogan, d'elia, schaud, etc)

<=5 would enjoy live but not going to see a special one

<=8.5 enjoyable, would put on in background but not worth dedicated viewing, would love to see live if it were unknown material

>=9 the kind that's so good if it's on in the background i find myself actively viewing

10 - worthy of sharing

ali wong - good to any audience, didn't like before this but must have been a bad sample 6.5/10 with upside for more but sample still too low to give an 8 or so - most stuff seems to be about being a mom/getting married/etc so that's a bit exhausting

iliza schlesinger - pretty good until she starts her voices and her totally cringe "hashtag 'catchphrase she just used' " and then they even put it on the screen like it's a subtitle - could be a 7 with some training but as is a 5.5/10

hannah gadsby - i don't like how topical she can get ie really focusing on her being autistic or a lesbian or whatever, definitely feels like she's playing to a certain crowd and that'll keep her audience limited - what i've seen is very good but again too pandery to a certain type of female audience 7/10 but could be a 9/10 if she just made her act more gender neutral but as far as it goes, first time in a while i've seen an "this is how terrible men are to women" type act that I actually laughed at so I do admire her craft despite clearly not being in her intended audience

Maria Bamford is in my top 5, and that’s a list topped by Doug Stanhope.

Should check out Jen Kirkman, she has some good specials on Netflix.

I'm a huge Theo Von fan and was looking forward to the special but it was pretty bad. I think you nailed it his type of humor just isn't built for large theaters.

Shame about Theo's special, also a huge, huge fan.

Two of my favourite Theo podcasts are very contrasting. Firstly him on Rogan, where Theo's goes off on these super quick, witty riffs, and you tell he's just on another level to Joe's stoned ape brain.

The other was another lesson in not judging a book by it's cover, and was Riff Raff on Theo's podcast. Almost skipped it as, from my tiny amount of knowledge of Riff Raff, all I knew was I thought he looked a bit of a plonker, and made music I didn't like. Turns out he can go toe-to-toe with Theo (and hair-to-hair!).

Somehow I’ve never heard of this guy (until today) who I find hilarious

Yup! He does a couple of great podcasts too - Tuesdays with Stories with Joe List and One More Drink with Sam Morril.

Also, I'm sure it's been posted, but GOAT interview:

If I was gonna introduce anyone to Normand I would show them this set, and Newsday Cleveland. And then Don't Be Yourself, his best special imo, alas comedy central owns it.

But I came to post this!

humor not built for large theatres? lmao! oooookay then.

this reminds me of aerosmith in their early years being hooked up to powerful amps for the first time. tyler was like, "some people say if you're hooked up big you will for sure sound good. but if you suck, you'll suck even harder."

New Michael Che special on Netflix! Had no idea it was coming!! Halfway through and it’s pretty damn good. His last special was probably the best special that year!!

Chappelle's new live tour where he plays the documentary sucks. 1 hour of DJs and openers and then a 2 hour snoozefest of a movie followed by 15 mins of hilarious new Chappelle material. Not worth it for the 15 mins.

no comments on louies last work, "sincerely"? I know it's not new but I just watched it and I thought it was the best special I watched in years and one of his best, up there with "chewed up" and "oh my god", my favorites of his.

I didn't really like chappelle's new special... not because of the controversies but because it just wasn't funny to me. totally different from louie's, where even though he was involved in a lot of ****, none of that influenced quality of the material.

I rewatched sincerely in preparation for his new special and holy **** it was just so hilarious.
my personal favs are burr and giraldo but really hard to argue that there is anyone with a better complete collection of material than CK dude is just flat out a comedic genius and can't think of a single special of his I didn't think was hilarious.
