Spaceman, that is indeed exciting. GL.

I'm getting back on stage next month. It'll be my first time in four years. I'm opening for Screech, no joke.

Mitzi Shore died today. Prepare for the flood of 'remember when' on comics' podcasts.

Question for you! How do you approach something like this as a comic? Are you the type to focus in on people in the audience and kind of riff at them eye to eye? Like I could see it being a challenge trying to transition from doing gigs with small crowds where it's easy to see audience members and develop a rapport with them, and then going to a very large crowd where there is just like a sea of faces.

Loved Demetri Martin's special "If I". If he's got something new, I'll find it.

Saw Greg Davies's special on Netflix. I only knew of him from an appearance on The Russell Howard Hour. Seemed funny talking to Russell Howard and I suppose Russell made him look better than he is because in the first 20 minutes he got maybe 2 laughs out of me.

As for the other 45 minutes, somebody else will have to let me know if it gets any better.

Watched some other specials (though none new) such as Marc Maron: Too Real. My exposure to him was on a few of his podcast episodes where he seemed meh. His TV show seemed okay but I was impressed with his special.

Hannibal in Edinburgh had a unique twist as it was more a vlog of the fringe rather than a conventional stand-up show. An interesting look into how demanding the schedule is for stand-up comics.

First off, show was awesome. I had a great set (did about 16 minutes), Demetri killed for an hour, and he was very nice and humble to talk to. Demetri will be releasing a new Netflix special in the next 1-2 months!

As for your question, there was a very bright spotlight on me so I could barely see the first row of people, let alone the huge crowd behind them. This isn't necessarily any different than at a comedy club; some clubs have lighting where you can see a lot of the crowd, and others you're just as blind as this.

In a show of this magnitude I wasn't planning on riffing with the crowd anyway. I do a couple bits that require some slight audience interaction but it's pretty fool proof and doesn't require me to see them. I was a little worried about how certain material would translate to a very large crowd, but every bit worked very well and got a big response.

i do like this special, and i remember one of the jokes he makes in the casino really had me laughing. i was at one of the later shows on this run, could be misremembering but i believe it was one of the microphone-less ones. that room is one of the most awesome spaces. i saw an adam riches show there that just blew the roof off.

Anybody planning to go to The Fringe this year? I got a ticket to see Frankie Boyle and will probably grab one to see Daniel Sloss later on as he was terrific at last year's Fringe. I don't think Boyle's show is necessarily a part of The Fringe as he's not listed on their website. Seems like when Dylan Moran did a couple of shows in Edinburgh that were last minute works in progress shows before his upcoming tour.

Mark Normand's "Don't Be Yourself" was hilarious, really well crafted jokes! I noticed it got super downvoted on IMDB just because Schumer's name is attached though which is a bummer.

Anybody here see Dara O'Briain do stand up? I only knew him from Mock the Week but apparently he does stand-up. I saw one of his specials but his show appears to be the type that can really only be enjoyed live rather than recorded. It also seems to be the type of show that would work way better at a smaller club than an arena due to the amount of crowd work he does (and man is he good at it).

Anyway he's got a show in Glasgow in May and I was wondering if it was worth ticket + expenses to go there.

Always been a big Tom Papa fan, but was hugely disappointed by the Epix special caled Human Mule. It wasn't bad enough that I turned it off, but I only LOL'd once or twice over 75 minutes. This special felt like a family orientated Gaffigan special than one of Papa's earlier netflix specials which were great.

How many people have seen Papa's horrible tattoo? I have no idea if he tells every audience that he never shows it, but years back he showed it to us at the comedy cellar. It is indeed really bad.

Tried to watch Ali Wong's latest special "Hard Knock Wife". Based on her stage person, she seems as though she's quite funny but I couldn't relate to any of the parenting and pregnancy jokes (which was all of it). It was too much detail to handle. No subtlety what so ever. I think people who have been in that situation can find that funny but to me it was just disgusting. For me, there were more gross-out moments than actual funny moments and I shut it off about halfway through. I think I should have shut it off 10 minutes earlier.

On the other hand, Judah Friedlander's special "America is the Greatest Country in the United States" is absolutely fantastic and highly recommended.

Not a big fan of Ali Wong either.

If you want a good, more recent special from the opposite sex I'd suggest these:

She Ready! From the Hood to Hollywood: Tiffany Haddish

Nice Lady: Michelle Wolf

Yeah when you all mentioned Ali last year I watched about half and turned it off. Not for me.

I'll be seeing Judah Friedlander, Russell Howard, and Camilla Cleese at the Fringe this August.

Friendlander's Netflix special was fantastic. Shame I didn't catch it when it first came out. He's only doing a few nights as well. Hopefully not all the same stuff from his special last year. Russell Howard is good as a stand-up. It's a work-in-progress show and it only cost £5 for a ticket. So why not?

I'm curious to see if Camilla Cleese got some comedy genes from her dad or if she's just coasting on his name.

So yeah a solid roster for the summer

Doug Stanhope (this Friday)
Frankie Boyle: Prometheus Volume III
Russell Howard: Work in Progress
Daniel Sloss: X
Glenn Wool: Wool's Gold II
Dylan Moran: Dr. Cosmos
Judah Friedlander: America...Still Number One
Ed Gamble: Blizzard
Camilla Cleese and Steve Hofstetter
Ari Shaffir: Jew

Somehow missed all this while grunching. Nice work! Was that the biggest room you performed to? How were the butterflies right before you jumped out there?

I actually always found 16-60 minutes easier than 6 minutes. I'll probably never go back because the idea of 6 now seems terrifyingly restrictive to me.
