yes, but merchant has basically done one stand up tour in the last 20 years. he's not constantly putting out shows and pretending to be in the top echelon of stand up comedians.

Just watched Jerry Seinfeld " Im telling you for the last time" for the first time in years on Netflix

It is still amazing, material is mostly still very relevant

Love the cameos from famous comedians in the intro clip

I'm seriously kicking myself for not having watched Judah Friedlander's special when it first dropped. Easily one of the best specials on Netflix!!

Judah Friedlander's special might've been the best of the plethora of specials released on netflix last year. IIRC though it was released fairly late in the year and probably got lost in the shuffle by al but hardcore Stand up fans (or stand up fans who have lives and can't POSSIBLY keep up with the 2-3 weekly hours netflix seemed to release last year.)

This year it is still early but they seem to have slowed the pace just a bit. There are still plenty of specials being released, but a lot of them are targeted at niche or international fan bases not general stand up comedy fans.

Speaking of which, can anyone who is familiar with them recommend any of the foreign language stand ups that have been released recently?

I just bought tickets to see him in Seattle in July. Super pumped for that and I'm betting this show will be better than his last special.

The funniest part of the whole clip was when he suggested that American standups had been eclipsed by British, Australian and New Zealanders.

Stewart Lee is such an odd comedian. It's definitely an acquired taste. His jokes sound condescending, obnoxious and at times exceedingly long but you gotta see that there's Stewart Lee the person and Stewart Lee the character. The character is a pretentious ******* who trips over himself trying to make contorted jokes that don't sound like jokes that somehow end up being funny.

As for me, I enjoy his comedy. It's quite a bit out there but I like people willing to experiment a bit on stage.

Nate Bargatze on the stand ups is absolutely hilarious. James Acaster just dropped a 4 part special that was amazing. The first 20 minutes of first episode is rough to get through and the third episode isn’t that great but everything else is golden.

I actually live in seattle, but I'm out of state for all the Seattle shows. Flying to Chicago instead.

+1 to Bargatze being absolutely hilarious on Netflix's The Standups.

+2 on Nate.

I thought Fortune Feimster and Beth Stelling were very good also.

Bargatze just did the Tonight show a couple days ago.

A couple years ago I had lunch with him at a BWW and he was trying to get them to find the Vanderbilt spring football game (a glorified practice) on some obscure channel so I can definitely picture him getting to a bowl game hours early.

I've seen him crush and I've seen him be average. Any time he did his childhood stuff he killed me.

Relevant but just not funny to me. I couldn't make it through more than 10 minutes of it.

He seems to be the type of guy who's naturally funny. His accent, delivery and appearance all seem to be made for comedy. But if it the material isn't about him, then he really isn't particularly funny. But just based on who he is, he can take things that really aren't funny and make them funny.

So pretty funny but not best ever. There are plenty of comedians funnier than him (Stanhope, Burr, Segura etc) but he's still pretty darn good.
How do I watch the Joey Diaz special?

I think Diaz is extremely funny on podcasts but always kind of doubted that it translated to stand-up based on the clips I have seen on youtube. Rogan exagerates how good his friends are at things but nothing really unexpected about that.

Bert Kreisher is the one that I really didn't expect to be that good but I was dying laughing watching him.

If you haven't watched Joe Rogan Live from 1996.. I recommend it. If you don't like that then you probably just don't like his stand-up.

It's rare to come across a person who's exactly the same on and off stage but that's what Diaz is.

Saw James Acaster's 4 part special and was pleasantly surprised. His comedy is a bit out there and not normally what I'd be interested in but he had some very funny moments in there.

Does anyone ever watch getting Doug with high? He has tons of comedians on. Todd Glass is a frequent guest and is always hilarious!

I'm opening for one of my favorite comedians, Demetri Martin, at the 2,000 seat Wellmont Theater in Montclair, NJ on Thursday! Biggest show I've ever done, by far!
