The real story right now in comedy is the blowing up of one Mark Normand.
It's funny and genuine. They are only 8 minute eps and mostly contain quick witted people.

have followed normand on twitter for a couple of years and he is a great writer. what I’ve seen of his delivery I wasn’t impressed with, and I’m not even remotely aware of him ‘blowing up’.

Touring with Seinfeld + getting on Rogan and friends podcasts is a good pathway to blowing up. I bet we see a Netflix special next year.

He was finally on Rogan a few months ago and started selling out all of his shows immediately afterwards.

(Rogan confirmed new Carson-esque gatekeeper)

He also recently opened four shows @ the beacon for Seinfeld.

I'm thinking 2020 will be a pretty big year for him. HBO or Netflix literally have to come calling. Planning on seeing him when he comes to Toronto.

Really liking this Ronny Chieng special on Netflix. First time I see him. I can see him growing into a serious comedy beast. He's already excellent. Five more years and he's going to be at the top.

I don't see it. Tried to watch the netflix special, couldn't finish it.

My prediction is Dan Soder will be big in a few years.

I used to go to the Comedy Cellar like 4-5 times a year from 2012-2015 and Normand was my favorite comedian who never really blew up (I think I even saw him @ one of Dr Spaceman's shows). He is bound to blow up as soon as he gets a big enough audience.

My other favorite comedian who didn't quite blow up, Gary Gulman, has a fairly quality HBO special now out.

I liked Cheng and Gulman's specials. But neither were anything special. I agree Ronnie has a ton of potential. If anything actually his special was prob 15min too long.

Joan Rivers old comedy albums are pretty damn hilarious if you've never listened to them. Her bit on dealing with flashers in NYC still makes me ugly laugh. She'd have been the first one to have Louis CK on, back in the old days when it was okay to make mistakes.

Anyone go through Lenny Bruce's archive lately? Maisel has me curious. Where do I start?

I would listen to his albums - Carnegie Hall or The Berkeley Concert were my favs. They were recorded before he got heavy into heroin and are probably his best work.

Or better yet - if you want to learn about the man - watch this criminally unseen documentary about him: Swear To Tell The Truth (directed by Robert B Weide, narrated by DeNiro)

Where to find these things? The internets.

Nikki shticks is getting old.

Besides, girls who talk up being a ho usually are the equivalent of guys who talk about how big their junk is.

Give me Annie Lieberman or Jade Catta Preta anyday.

Those girls are funny naturally.

His bit about Kanye West lyrics from way back when was really funny, glad to see him finally getting some attention. Not sure if he's on his way to the top, but he's still super decent

Can't look up the youtube link but if you look up ronnie chieng kanye lyrics there should be a 2-3 min clip

Reading all the press for Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes, made me think of Jerry Seinfeld's awesome acceptance speech back when he won something called the HBO Comedy Award. He basically just mocked the pretentiousness of the whole thing while accepting the award, pretty great stuff.

When Seinfeld was in his late 30s, he was ****ing a high school student. So he should be the one that is being mocked.

Dude can dish it out but can't take it.

Soshanna was a sore spot with him, dunno why, plowing a hot 18 year old with big cans isn't illegal.

Mark Normand told a story about him and it really made Seinfeld look silly.

But the dude sounds like a douche all around, he just gets a pass because he's Seinfeld.

If you want to listen to a podcast about it, joe list and mark have one called Tuesdays with Stories and i think the excerpt is on YouTube.

Its about 4 episodes back.

Basically its Seinfeld getting pissed off that Mark didn't hit the time right during a show and went back onstage to try and fix it because he ended too soon and Jerry wasn't ready.

The whole thing is silly, but i guess its a big deal in the standup world.
