Friendlander's Netflix special was fantastic. Shame I didn't catch it when it first came out. He's only doing a few nights as well. Hopefully not all the same stuff from his special last year.
i saw friedlander at the comedy cellar in october last year. this is before the netflix special came out. i remember thinking 'wow, so quick and polished, i wonder how many of those audience retorts he has and how many times he's done them before?'. then i went on youtube and basically saw the same material verbatim from several years earlier.

so, good luck!

Anyone see Chris D'Elia before he got big? I'm seeing him for the first time in September but the room holds 1000. He's one I wish I had seen in a room that holds 150.

I saw Judah Friedlander a couple days ago at a festival, it was nearly all crowd work but he was deliberately steering away from anything that he covered in his last special.

That's good to know.

Damn. I was going to catch the Dave Chappelle/John Mayer Controlled Danger show in Montreal but a pair of floor tickets are $450CDN. Nope.

Saw Caparulo in Vegas at Harrah's, for like 11 bucks.

He and Tom Green have residence there for a bit. I never thought Tom Green was even a little bit funny, so didn't see him.

Review of Stanhope's show in Glasgow:

Indian gang rape jokes

Apparently, there were multiple fist fights at his last show in Glasgow which might be the most stereotypically Glaswegian thing in existence. He made multiple references to them.

Anyway, if you're the type who loves Indian gang rape jokes, I suggest seeing Stanhope when he comes by your part of the world.

Got around to watching Ryan Hamilton: Smiley Face on Netflix.

His cadence is nearly identical to Jerry Seinfeld. Actually, everything about him seems like a copy of Seinfeld. So if you want to watch a much younger Seinfeld, Ryan is your guy.

Apparently, a comedian named Hannah Gadsby exists based on her newly released Netflix special.

I watched the trailer and it appeared quite funny in the beginning but then sunk when even the trailer got preachy. Does this represent the special because it seemed like the death of comedy?

I think Netflix giving every comedian no one ever heard of a special is the death of the "special". Even the comedians themselves have been saying that. There's just so many that aren't good enough for a basic comedy central 10 minute spot.

Didn't know who James Acaster was before his special and was delighted that Netflix gave him a shot.

Don't mind trying a few out. But most of the time the best I can do is 10 minutes before shutting it off.

Saw him 1 foot away at the Black Cat in NYC and thought the same thing. Also was very grateful he didn't do any crowd work. Highly recommend any of the comedy cellar affiliated shows.

Hope he isn't as preachy as he was in Freedumb.

It'd be worse if him being on CC forces him to tame down his stand-up.

In terms of pure content it's the best special I've seen maybe ever but it is not structured like a typical set (which is what makes it special). The jokes are good for the most part but it's her awareness and command of them as a storytelling form that, trite as it is to say, transcends the genre.

The special is only preachy in that she is telling her story and advocating for its importance, which she absolutely should because it absolutely is. Hers respresents a perspective on comedy and life that a lot of people don't engage or come into contact with in their own lives, and there is a lot of value to be gained in doing so.

Anyways, it won't be the funniest special you'll ever see (but it is funny!) but it's definitely memorable. I'd feel very comfortable declaring anyone who disagrees an *******.

Surprised nobody updated this for the relase of Jim Jefferies new stand up.

If you wanted a stand-up special the opposite of Gadsby, you wanted this one. Nice to see Jim be less preachy and less political. It made his Freedumb special very ****ty imo. This one is way better.

Maybe he felt a bit restricted in what he could joke about...

Spoiler:
when he was married rather than being a single dad with some freedom to enjoy the single life

Barry's been doing an entire tour consisting solely of crowd work. There's actually a special of it out. It's pretty good.
