Dave Chappelle is surely in whatever you define as the elite tier of comedy, and has been so for awhile. I feel like his highs are higher than all but maybe 3-4 people ever, and his lows are still pretty good. What makes Chappelle so special, and sets people like him, Chris Rock, and Bill Burr above everyone else is their type of material. Yes, its incredibly funny, but it is also introspective and uncompromising in a way that most Kevin Hart-level-famous comedians are not willing to approach. They see something wrong with how the world is moving, and will let you know about it, despite whatever consequences come with telling you.

I just finished his two newest specials and overall thought they were quite good. I agree with Fuluck that the first one was funnier, but the second one was more enjoyable. In terms of pure laughs, I'd say that neither of these sets approach his funniest material. That said, I think The Bird Revelation is potentially his most elite and honest special ever. It was less a comedy special and more his random musings on life. He discussed issues that no more than 1 or 2 comedians would even have the balls to address, and did so incredibly poignantly and intelligently. Throughout the set, he was still funny, but the material was so dark and stinging that I can totally understand why some won't like it as much. After I finished The Bird Revelation, I pondered his final bit for quite awhile and left feeling overwhelmed by the complexity and depth of his whole set. Everything is laid out perfectly and tied together flawlessly. Chappelle comes from a generation of comedians who would always state how they feel, no matter how politically incorrect or uncomfortable it made people. My favorite thing about his set was the noticeable cringing of the audience at the end of some of his pieces. The world is in a dark place right now in politics, in Hollywood, and in sports media. He addresses all of these issues in a way that I just couldn't see a single other current comedian accomplish.

Ya well said. I don't know how many new comics could rise to fame on the back's of a platform like this. So there's an even greater responsibility for the comics who have "made it" to do so.

Take risks, show the ugly side of the world, laugh at some of it, cry at other parts of it. I just hope he stands by his word and doesn't let the stuff force him into quitting. If he quits, man I'd lose hope.

This comment made me want to watch these specials immediately, so I did and am not disappointed

not a whole lot more i can add. laughed my ass off at the first one and felt like i had learned something and had a nice relaxed time while doing it in the second. felt slightly hypnotic. Also it was enjoyable how current it was. In the Bird Revelation he said "They got Charlie Rose today!" that was only 6 weeks ago.

I'm happy for Dave, it seems like he is in a good place with his life right now and though i regret that we missed out on a decade of his talent, I think we may be better off for it. I know he is.

I legit didn't know that the he was only 29 when he started the Chappelle show. In many ways we got lucky. At only 44 now he's got so much mileage left.

CK is 50, Rock is 52, Burr is 49, and for some context Seinfeld is 63. So Chappelle being only 44 means we get a lot more goodness for a long time, hopefully!

Chappelle on stage in DC was hilarious. I was short of breath from laughter at times.

But in the Belly Room was the real treat. Working out that material. Like watching the 84 Dream Team practice.

I grew up in DC. As soon as we were 21 me and one of my sex maniac buddies used to frequent a strip club called Camelot. Now that I’m more experienced I’ve come to realize that Camelot was a very stuffy strip club. The girls were hot but there was barely any contact with customers and you could get thrown out super easily. My buddy got booted once just for putting a dollar in a girl’s garter too suggestively.

Anyway one night we go in there and there’s this young black guy running wild. He’s jumping up on stage, dancing with girls, motorboating girl’s asses, sucking on tities. The strippers seemed to love it and none of the staff is making any effort to stop him. Me and my buddy are like WTF is going on here, we were so confused.

It turns out that guy was Dave Chappelle. He later had a drink with us and was every bit as cool and gracious as you’d expect him to be. Even gave us free tickets to a show. Some dudes are just special, they make their own rules.

Drop $10k in a strip club and you can get away with just about anything.

Love chappelle but found it a bit preachy. Still nice to hear new material though.

I apologize if this has been discussed before, but does anyone else find Jerry Seinfeld to be extremely arrogant? I just started watching his show about cars and coffee or whatever it's called, and he just acts so presumptuous. I have noticed it in a lot of his interviews as well. Ah, maybe it's just me.

Have i already bragged itt that I was at the taping of the Prince episode of Chappelle Show? Definitely the funniest thing I’ve ever experienced in person (they started by showing us the Rick Janes episode). I’ll always remember, though, that after he showed us the episode he just riffed about Prince and life and other things and it was hilarious. I’ll have to check out the new specials

It's pretty well known that he hates dealing with the public in general. I also binged comedians in cars and couldn't stand his personality The only reason I watched the show is b/c of the great comics he had on. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED his TV show, but never really understood why he was considered a great stand up. His stand up career may have been A LITTLE before my time, but I don't have any memory of seeing him on any of the late 80's comedy boom shows or see any reason why he is treated with the reverence he is by modern stand up comics

If you think Jerry Seinfeld might be arrogant, just watch his interview with Larry King (I can't seem to embed the YouTube video from my phone).

He also was on Seth Myers's show and acted like he was doing the guy a huge favor by appearing.

Seinfeld and Tom Hanks for me are among the nut low for a-holes you'd expect to be likeable based on their TV/movie characters. I'd legit pass on a chance to talk to Seinfeld. Dude strikes me as a penis. I still appreciate his dedication to his craft, but that's about it.

I enjoyed the new Chappelle stuff but I wouldn't call it great. As others have said the first one was more funny but it was cool to see him at the comedy store.

I am slightly disappointed by Segura's new special. I thought his last two specials were gold but he didn't seem as relaxed in this one. The crowd was also just laughing hysterically at things that weren't that funny so he was having to wait more for them to shut up.

I have seen both and these are perfect examples of why I feel the way I do.

Haven't watched Comedians in Cars in years, but I'll absolutely watch for Chappelle

I was very disappointed in this one. His first 2 are some of my favorite standup specials on Netflix. This one was barely snicker worthy.

I thought Segura's newest special was actually quite good but I do agree that it wasn't as good as his previous specials. But a below average Segura special is way better than most specials imo.

I thought Chappelle's latest special was a bit of a downfall from his peak. I mean it was definitely better than the one involving stories about O.J. Simpson but it was pretty meh when compared to Killing Me Softly and For What It's Worth.

Saw Katt Williams: Great America. Was not impressed in the slightest.

Granted, it was the first time I ever watched a Katt Williams special. I only knew him from being A Pimp Named Slickback from The Boondocks.
