It's sad really. I hear Facebook can get addictive too. Maybe if you have no life amirite?

Just use the ****ing kid or a family pic shot from a distance. Use something that makes you smile when you see it. My pic is me and my Dad at a nice dinner in Italy. You are making this infinitely harder than it needs to be. Pull your panties out of your crack and just get it done.

The picture quandary is really dependent on how common your name is.

If you have a Bob Smith type of name that generates lots of matches, a picture of you is pretty crucial peice of the puzzle that might help a long lost friend find you.

Anybody here play Mafia Wars? I'm a VERY mild facebook user (signed up a couple of months ago and have never posted a status update - accept only IRL friends - ignore the high school unknowns, etc). I basically just log on every few days and browse status updates, and Mafia Wars is all over a couple of them, and it looks somewhat interesting.

Is it?

You are likely going to have both business contacts and friends checking you out. Assume everything you write is completely public--I'd just set it up to be about your business with a few minor, tame, non-controversial personal pieces of information. Don't fill out your religious views or anything else that might alienate a business contact.
actually disagree with this - i think the best "business" profile for networking purposes is a pretty normal wholesome profile where you don't status update all that much, and set privacy settings pretty high

if you're too in your face about your facebook profile for networking reasons it comes off lame so i would never go "business logo" as profile pic

if anything you shoudl do a fan page for businesses, or its own profile with the name of the business

Yes, I think that's what I'll do.

I usually instahate people who do this but you're old and your kids are cute so it's semi-acceptable.

really? how old are you? haha i'm old i guess (early 30s), or my friends are annoying - i'd say at some point 50% of my friends who have kids have posted a pic of just their kid as their profile pic (the other 50%have definitely posted a pic with their kids)

I'm 28 and of the friends of mine who have kids, yeah, the majority have their kids in/as their profile pic. Most of my friends don't have kids though.

I'm also a joyless grinch who hates just about everything about children and their parents fwiw.

I should kinda get it set up with pictures and stuff before I start adding people, right?

i used to blog in the traditional sense; a few sentences here and there, some links to things i liked. i didn't get much traffic.

now i use facebook as a blog; i write notes if i have something to say, and i post links i enjoy/think are important. i get a lot more 'traffic' and comments and such on facebook, where lots of my friends are and can see my updates without much work.

the trick to using facebook is judicious use of the "hide" feature. my news feed is no longer cluttered with cupcakes, quiz results, and g-d- stupid mafia wars.

i've also reconnected with several friends both male and female that i thought i'd never see or hear from again.

using facebook professionally doesn't make much sense to me, unless you're a writer or blogger or some other person who not only links to lots of things on the internet but needs to promote themselves.

also, as a childless 27-year-old male, i absolutely cannot stand it when people post picture of their babies as their profile pictures. put your baby pictures in an album so i can look at them if i care to, please.

Yes, if you try to add people first--instant armageddon. Please for the love of god, slow down, and think before you act on this crucial decision. Think of the billion or so children who will perish in a fiery hellstorm. Do you really want that on your conscience?

Also, great choice on the profile pic.

OK so I made different lists to put my friends on. My understanding is that each of these lists can have different access? Is that true? How do I change that?
