On a side note, as an ER doctor in Las Vegas, I had two dog bites last night in one shift that were by emotional support animals. One at a casino and other at a restaurant.

Pet Therapy: Students Increasingly Bringing “Emotional Support” Animals to College

***Americans have not only embraced the Shultz dictum that happiness is a warm puppy: They’re applying it to warm rabbits, kangaroo rats, pot-bellied pigs, cockatiels and ferrets. And for that matter, to decidedly tepid ball pythons, Cuban rock iguanas and Chilean rose hair tarantulas.***

God Bless America.
lol people ****ing disgust me. **** everyone else who doesnt like these creatures or has life threatening allergies right.

300 years ago these mental weaklings would have just died from the latest raid on their settlement.

whenever i think of the ******ation that is public use of emotional support animals, i just imagine their owner getting scalped in 1710.

Not even mentioning the logical fallacy that having a support animal doesnt make you a target of negativity.

This thread for example, some people dont seem to mind them as much, but the majority seem to dislike or hate that it is allowed. we can only assume that its similar publically, even if they arn't as vocal as the forums warriors.

So now not only are you stressed out (lol) but everyone around you thinks you are weird or crazy. when you are carrying around a rabbit or a turkey, people will assume the worst.

Flew home from a bachelor party this weekend. Saw a dog on my plane coming home, this animal wasn't trained well IMO. Urinated once, barked a few times, and generally seemed very anxious. The guy seemed like a real richard and he was rude to the flight attendants. I also overheard the guy who had the dog tell two young kids across the aisle from him to please keep it down as they were making his dog nervous. I didn't think the kids were being noisy and it didn't seem that they were engaging with the dog in any way. So first run in with one of these things and I think we should have tossed this guy out the airlock. I felt horrible for the dog.

<3 the college students bringing ESAs to class to deal with stress. Imagine how stressful a job interview will be someday. I would think it would be better to focus on developing coping skills that don't mark you as an unemployable nutjob.

Not any 'mental illness' that can be 'treated' with an ESA. It's bull**** pseudoscience without a shred of genuine scientific backing.

I find ESAs to be faintly ridiculous, but I like and respect Gobbo all the same

Meh. Still has no business on a plane or in a restaurant. The dog. Gobbo can presumably go wherever he wants.

At least this babying of our generations is making life a tad more enjoyable.
The person in charge of whatever place.

On a plane, the pilot or stewardess.
In a restaurant, manager or waiter.
In a dorm, the facilities coordinator.

What does work?

Anti-depressants? Hmmmm.
Therapy? Hmmm

ESAs do help some people interact in society. An ESA can reduce anxiety. Lower anxiety is scientifically associated with better health outcomes.

I don't doubt that ESAs have some benefit but they also have externalities. I don't want to be forced to sit next to a large, smelly, dangerous, or loud animal nor do i want to have to be near one that i'm allergic too.

This may or may not be true, but it seems to me incredibly unlikely that the temporary anxiety experienced in the few hours of a plane flight would have any long term health repercussions. Stick the ESA in cargo, load up on weed brownies or booze and tough it out like the rest of us who hate flying ffs. You can have your precious Foo-Foo back when we land.

We don't get to lead anxiety free lives, none of us.
