That show is awesome. “What more is a dream but a blueprint for courageous action!”
Seems it's 'Of what use is a dream...' etc. The work of screenwriter Lorenzo Semple Jr, who was also credited for Three Days of the Condor (memorably adapted from the novel Six Days of the Condor, because the movie version is always cut down), so he may have written Max von Sydow's wonderful 'First sunny day of the spring' speech, also called the 'Becoming smile' speech:-
Pleased to hear that, when you met Mr West, he was just the gent that everybody said he was. I think he knew that children of that generation looked up to him and remembered him, and he never let the side down. In the middle of Batman's TV run there were scare stories in the British press about children injured or killed by jumping from trees pretending to be Batman, and, in Britain at any rate, the next episode was preceded by Batman and Robin speaking to camera, with Batman saying, 'We are not superhuman, and we cannot fly,' and Robin punching his fist into his palm by way of agreement and going, 'Holy broken bones!'
By the time I got to college I was infatuated with the previously mentioned Lindsay Wagner, aka. The Bionic Woman.
My 3 college roommates and I had a draft where we selected our dream harem. I took Lindsay with my 1st round pick. Got Cheryl Ladd in the 2nd round and Natalie Wood in round 3.
Fast forward about 40 years and I'm working in my bar south of San Diego talking to a customer. He gets a call and excuses himself saying he has to meet a friend in the parking lot to give her a key. He comes back inside a few minutes later and casually mentions that he tried to get his friend to come in and say hi but she needed to be somewhere in a few minutes. Oh, by the way he says, you might have heard of her, her name is Lindsay Wagner. I say 'Lindsay Wagner, the Bionic Woman!?'. He says yeah, she's my neighbor in Palm Springs. WTF! Are you kidding me. My all time crush is in my parking lot and I don't know it until she's gone! I probably would have gone all Ralph Kramden, homina...homina...homina, but it still would have been great to meet her. After I told the dude how I had a crush on her in college he said he would try to get her to come in but it never happened. Argggh!
