Regular Prusser's tastes way too molassesy for my taste. I assume this is even more so?
Thanks! I had read that the RdJ was solid before I ordered it, but you never know with those "gimmick" Rums. I recall reading somewhere that there was a Peaky Blinders rum which was an exact copy of another, cheap rum (in the same bottle, even) but the label made it cost another €30, lol. Glad it wasn't the case with this one.
I can't compare the Pussers as I haven't tried the other one, but this was definitely quite molassey. I think the thick molasses play a part in diminishing the alcohol taste and gives it more of the almost gooey texture which is rich, spicy, sweet and complex. That works well because of how powerful and sharp it is, I can imagine it being a little nauseating without the sharpness to offset some of the thick, gooey experience. If you don't like the molasses feeling at all it maybe isn't for you, but there was so much power behind that it didn't feel excessive to me.
I have ordered one today so I'll try it again shortly (I also ordered Dos Maderas 5+5).
In the meantime I've caught up on my calendar.
4. Chamarel Single Estate. There's no indication of which rum it specifically is on the label sticker, but at 41% it's likely to be a VSOP, Googling tells me.
I've read that this is essentially rhum Agricole (I haven't tried that before), except they can't call it so because of where it's made.
I'm not a big fan of the smell to be quite frank, it's synthetic and a little all over the place in a sense, but the taste is good, it "evolves" a lot and the aftertaste is rich and powerful, but without an alcohol taste. It's a little difficult to judge as I can't say what characteristics is this rum specifically has and which ones are more broad for Agricole. I give it 7/10 for just how much I like it without considering anything else.
5. Santos Dumont XO
Never heard of this before. It's a rum from Brazil (I forgot to mention that each rum on the calendar is from a unique country).
Very delicious smell, it's sweet, smooth but also sharp and fruity. It smells amazing, it makes me wanna both smell it for an hour, but also to taste it.
Very honeysweet and rich taste, a lot of fruityness. There's also some things I can't quite tell what is, but which gives it a lot of depth and makes the aftertaste so much more interesting than if it had just been sweet. For a sweet rum, this has it all in my opinion, and the balance in the taste and smell is just amazing. 9/10
