Just wanted to get in on this awesome troll thread. Obv op is leveling/dumb as a rock. After I read the 15k in cc debt and the title of this thread I don't think you need to dig any deeper.

Good day sir

If I made 65k a year, I would probably have all my debt paid off, live in a nicer place, have a cleaning service, and probably go on a real vacation once or twice a year.

Most people who live/work in NYC do not live in Manhattan.

To live well in your own decently sized place in Manhattan south of 96th street you basically need to be rich, with few exceptions. The other boroughs, not so much.

People reading and participating in this thread need to understand the difference between Manhattan and NYC. They should also be aware that there are a lot of nice and safe NYC neighborhoods minutes outside of Manhattan.

For me if I'm going to prepare a meal it is actually a meal that involves a lot of ingredients which is much more expensive than eating like a nine year old and just throwing some chicken nuggets and fries in the oven. I couldn't make what I consider a meal for under $20 and most likely I would be looking at $30+ but if I just wanted to eat whatever I can buy pasta in a can for $1-2.
You cook and eat cheese now?

OP

I'm not going to attack your food because I eat like a horse and easily run up to 600-700$ a month in JUST FOOD.

But the fact that you are supporting another person on 65K a year in NYC is whats killing you.

The 1600$ rent a month needs to be cut down. Get your girlfriend to do a parttime 1-2 day a week job to help pay for ****.

Can't pay for everything yourself.

It's either-or. If he's leveling he's a genius if he's not then I don't understand the point of this thread because he's not listening to any good advice.

Their produce is quite a bit fresher than the grocery, and the hormone-free yogurt we make smoothies with is half the price. I can get basmati rice and smoked salmon and sea salt there.

Their prices on Parmigiano Reggiano, Pecorino Romano, chevre, and unfiltered extra virgin olive oil are unbeatable, and I can gas up my car for about 3 cents a gallon under the cheapest gas station, pick up a rotisserie chicken for $4.99, and get cash back at the end of the year.

CostCo.
rofl yeah, my mom is a former chef turned food magazine writer, and id say she buys about 25% of stuff at high end places (like meat or what have you) but the other 75% at costco. and shes the BIGGEST food nit when it comes to quality that its possible to imagine.

This is a link to the Superstore right by my house.

http://www.realcanadiansuperstore.ca...riodId=4200004

This is a link to the Associated Supermarket at 2212 THIRD AVE, NYC

http://www.associatedsupermarkets.co...0sales%201.htm

Shop around, I think you'll find the prices are very comparable and in some cases better at associated.

*EDIT*
I have never been to New York, but i'm assuming that if I can do a quick Google search and find a store with decent prices from here in Canada, OP should be able to do this much easier.

Still waiting for OP to chime in on the most important question: What's your GF's situation right now that doesn't allow her to contribute to your living expenses? Pls to be answering this. (I assume he's not worried about her reading 2p2, since otherwise he wouldn't have started a thread about her being 50lb overweight either.)

hey guys,

i think i have some valuable insight to contribute. i live in thailand and make around what the OP makes.

i have:

- a 6500 sq foot house, paid for in 2 years, so i live rent-free.

- 3 prostitutes to service my every whim, 24 hours a day

- i eat out every meal and spend half of what OP spends on groceries

- i don't need cologne since i am white and lol thailand

AND I STILL HAVE $500/MONTH LEFT OVER

cliffs:

move to thailand, everything's much cheaper

If you're going to be from NYC and complain about trolls, at least TRY not to be one yourself.

*EDIT*
Let's also note I only did a quick search (from Canada). I would assume someone living in New York could easily find comparable prices at several different places.

Dont take this the wrong way, but the postings are from Supermarkets that are all over the city in different neighborhoods. I don't think you have any clue of the city layout and its size. Getting from one place to the other could take an hour if not more by car or train, plus it would be very inconvenient. I am not sure where OP lives but I would definitely not want to drive 1 hour to a Supermarket just to save $3 and waste $5 on gas, parking...just saying

I live with my gf in San Diego and we do fine on one 43k/ yr income. We Dont struggle one bit at all. We go out to the bars at least once a week and go through a few bottles of decent wine during the weekdays too. We eat good food that I cook every night and just bought a balla new Samsung tv.

We are paying off a student loan, cc debt and 1k/ mo rent. there is still good amount of money left over for fun and too save. We have increased our savings 3-fold since we lived here as well.

Not trying to brag but just showing that 65k is no where near poor if us 2 can live pretty comfortably in San Diego, which is just as expensive as NYC. There are things you can cut out and still live really comfortably.

again, only one of these is in a neighborhood that wouldn't be considered lower-middle-class (and even then, they say they accept food stamps). and getting around the city is not easy at all - this means that you should basically be shopping in your own neighborhood (or like killa suggested, drive ~30 mins outside the city and shop in bulk).

I almost feel sorry for people that think you need these amounts to live comfortably in NYC. I mean, it's NY ****ing city. There's lots of fun stuff to do on the cheap. And if you have an active social life, you don't need to hang around at home all day and nite. I live here for the arts & culture, the nightlife, the food, the people, the diversity, the variety of institutions of higher ed, the shopping opportunities, etc. I am completely happy in a 400sq ft apt (living alone). I don't need "1000 - 1500 sq ft" to feel comfortable. I don't need to eat out at a 3-star restaurant every night to be happy. Etc. And no, I'm neither a communist nor an ascetic.
