As expected eyesight is decent but got prescribed glasses. The optician did some thing where she put a bunch of lenses over my eyes and asked which I saw the Snellen/LogMAR better with. I could mostly make out the bottom row without glasses, but I'd couldn't always tell the difference between H and N and similar. With the lenses it was much clearer - I've had trouble picking out the score in sporting matches for years and am looking forward to the difference that wearing glasses will provide.

Q. - I went for the cheapest frames which was like $20.75 (they looked good enough & since I'll mostly wear them at home I don't see the point in going designer?). But the optician recommended anti-glare lenses & now I was quoted $62! Is anti-glare worth it? The lady who did my first eye test (prior to the Snellen/LogMAR) commented on how beautiful my eye colour is which is totally true so I'm thinking it would be good if girls could see my eyes, but I'm not sure how much I'd wear my glasses out and about. Maybe watching sports in a bar?

Thanks!!

Edit: Is it worth going for more expensive frames? I really DGAF about appearance but I'm not always the most careful which could argue for getting more expensive frames if they're more durable (or going cheaper if I'm going to break them anyway).

I can't resist having to say LOL at thinking that $62 for a pair of anti-glare frames is expensive--at least not here in #1'murica.

I just bought a new pair of average, plastic frames and they cost me $130, not counting the cost of the lenses.

Do you have anti-glare lenses?

Another thought - I guess I don't really need glasses for sports but I do like to play tennis and may get back into football (goalkeeper) at some point. Apparently my right eye is stronger than my left eye and I am, as you American say, slightly nearsighted - can I just play tennis with my prescription glasses and expect them to stay on? Should I speak with the optician and get a second pair of glasses with more durable lenses? Playing from one side of the net at my usual court is often brutal if the sun is out - would anti-glare glasses deal with this issue as well as sunglasses?

Thanks!!

Billie Jean King (39 Grand Slam titles including six singles championships at Wimbledon and four at the US Open) wore glasses. Still does.

Glasses around my way is 200+ easy without antriglare. If you go to someplace like pearl vision their average price is like 400+ before antiglare unless you want horrible looking glasses. $62 is nothing for glasses, take that from someone whos been wearing them since middle school and I don't have anything crazy that would jack up prices like bifocals or a astigmatism and whatever else drives up prices. My mom's glasses are like 50% more then mine cuz of extra problems.

Got glasses in the mail today. Watching TV ... it's weird, like upgrading the pixel count on a YouTube video. Looks better but it's when you then take the glasses off and put them back on again the difference is most noticeable. Reading license plates is easier too. It's a very strange feeling. I sort of regret ordering the cheapest frame I could find online since I think I'll wear them more than I anticipated and might actually care what I look like (but really whatever, they look OK).

When wearing the glasses I get a hard to describe feeling, like a very mild headache, or being slightly drunk ... like something is a little wrong but I can't say what. When I go from seated to standing I get a little dizzy and disoriented. Guessing this is just normal and will wear off after a couple of weeks: my brain is struggling to cope with my eyes actually functioning optimally - did you have similar experiences?

ya that goes away with use, you should adjust to them. also i dont think ive ever paid less than 400 for a pair.

when i waited a long time between buying new glasses and my last pair, my eyes were noticeably worse. so when i got prescribed the new pair it was weird. a bit dizzy, a bit feeling like you are buzzed visually.

I don’t wear glasses that often, driving at night mostly. But the tv thing made me remember last year, I finally broke down an bought a really nice current model tv. I spent half a day trying to dial it in. Made a million adjustments and was ready to have the store come and take it back. Then I put on my glasses. Holy crap. Now I wear glasses to watch tv.

Do you use 'normal' glasses or some funky varifocal type? Are you paying 400 for the frame or the lens?

Glasses cause a slight curvature of the visual field at the edges of the lenses, which can feel like things are towering over you. Your brain quickly learns to ignore it.

I practically feel like I want to throw up when I start wearing a new pair of glasses. Normally wears off after a week or so.

Like James Bond, I don't wear glasses.

Everyone else in my family needs them and has done since teenage years though so I don't know why I'm the exception.

The Hawt Amy Winehouse thread and the BILF thread occasionally still get bumped, and it’s definitely worthwhile when they do. This one, not so much.

I wore hard contacts for decades. The problem with hard contacts is that they distort the shape of the eyes. Because of this I could never see quite right with glasses. I always had a pair of glasses but didn't feel safe wearing them outside or heaven forbid driving. But a couple of years ago I made the switch to soft contacts. Softs took me a while to get used to and it took me a while to see as well with them. But this healed my eyes to the point where I could see very well with glasses.

The result is I wear glasses about half of the time now. I bought 3 pairs just this year just because they are so ridiculously cheap online. I still rarely wear them out but when I do I am completely comfortable that I can see and driving is no longer a problem

I don't wear them, but somebody explain what is going on with Chuck Schumer. Don't bifocals or something make this unnecessary?

My guess: He has had cataract surgery and needs no correction for distance but needs "readers," but he does not want to wear bifocals with no correction for distance on top half all the time.

I went the other direction and do have bifocals with no correction for distance, but only use them while reading so I don't have to do what he seems to be doing (with most readers)--or pulling them off and on. With my bifocals on, my distance vision is a little distorted--probably the same for him and he doesn't like that. Neither do I, but I generally don't need readers often. In fact, I tried to find some cheap readers that are designed to allow you to look over the top, but couldn't find any that I liked. If I get to the point where I need them more often, I'll probably pony up for a decent pair. Chuck should be able to afford them.

Could be he hasn't had cataract surgery, but just needs readers due to age. Either way, the result is the same.
