I found my preferred temperature to be right around the low 700's for taste.
almost all of the rigs I've seen use a BNC end where it connects to the controller. you can unscrew the back part of the connector and see if it looks like any of the 3 (+ - ground ) have come lose. If they have it's just a simple solder job.
If that isn't it then it's like the coil itself shorted. If so, you're SOL on that one. most sites sell new ones for 30-40 ime.
gotta be really careful with the coils. if you try and bend them or move them around, there is a good chance your coil will develop hot spots and/or shorts.
one thing I don't do that is suggested on most sites is put the coil on hot and take it off hot.. I'm not exactly sure why that's suggested, (assuming expansion and contraction cracking the glass?) but I have never had an issue just leaving it on the rig 24/7 and letting it warm up/cool down on the rig.
