I think the biggest problem with rebooting the series is the same problem the prequels had; we aren't going to be 8 when they come out again.

The first 3 movies are great but I don't think it's impossible for them to be improved, particularly now that Lucas wouldn't be involved. It's pretty moot, they aren't going to reboot while there are 3 movies in the series left. Really don't want to see cheesy cameos by any of the original actors other than the droids.

Did you have the RunPee App and it had you go pee during the JarJar scenes?

I would definitely prefer if Luke and Leia are the same actors 40 years in the future leading the next generation than recasting them fwiw.

Yes please. They don't even need to be a major part of the film. Throw in a Han Solo sighting too while you're at it, but these characters don't need to be the focus. Let's have 30 years later really be 30 years later.

If they did that I'm sure they could make it work, but I don't see any sense in launching a new series around a few cameos. Even if it would be cool.

worked well for Star Wars/Spock - though that was slightly more than a cameo

I have no opinion on Lucas, but I don't see how him, the guy who created the whole universe and wrote the original triligy, being involved could be some terrible thing that dooms this next trilogy from the start??

George Lucas was both the best and worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars.

He had an excellent vision and a brilliant mind in creating the entire concept. Between SW and all of the things Lucasfilm has achieved he pushed the movie industry far beyond where he found it. Between ILM, THX, Skywalker Sound, early Pixar doing CG, it's pretty amazing when you think about what he's done, largely independent of Hollywood too.

On the other hand, his dialogue has never been all that strong and what directing skills he had seem to have deteriorated. Remember that he didn't direct Empire or ROTJ, others did. He did a great job with American Graffiti and well enough with Star Wars, even if the cast thought little of him. His next three as director were the prequels which were just badly directed (some good actors came off badly). Then he can't leave the originals alone, and every change makes them worse.

I think "creative consultant" is a great place for him. He can't help from behind the camera and someone else needs to be brought in for writing.

I'm lukewarm on Trek, but I'm tired of Leonard Nimoy and Spock. They did 7-8 movies with him plus the series, plus cameos.

I liked the most recent movie but not because he was in it. It came off like a gratuitous fan-jerk. Being totally honest I thought TNG was better by a ways anyway, and is probably a better example of how moving on can be better (and I know Spock cameo'd that too). (And that people won't agree).

Pixar is mixed results?

Can you even name 3 bad Pixar movies ever?

It seems all they do is make great movies.

THX 1138 was also surprisingly good for a low budget scifi film.

Not necessarily true. Lucas can write a good story (after all, he wrote the story for the original prequel and the Indiana Jones series). What Lucas sucks at is directing and dialog.

Lucas writing the overarching story concept, but have an actually talented screenwriter and talented director doing what they do best, and there could be a magic.

The most powerful army in the galaxy, armed with blasters, walkers, and whatnot, was defeated by a bunch of tiny animals armed with slingshots.

Plus, the whole Ewoks worshiping C3PO thing was beyond stupid.

True, but it's not even that big a deal. It's not like the Ewoks destroyed the entire Empire. And let's face it: Stormtroopers seemed to suck throughout the first trilogy. I've seen even battle droids kill jedi knights, but can't remember stormtroopers ever hitting a thing.
