Rewatched it and the copycat plot is what really looked bad on 2nd viewing.

The similar plot was the most disappointing thing about the movie.
What if it ends with Rey losing a body part and being told a shocking revelation?

7 feet tall is absolutely gigantic. You'd get stared at in public all the time.

It's about 20cm above average. Depending on what average is where you live.

As long as average height where you live is 6'4", yes this is true. Good point.

It's 213cm according to Google. LIke I said it's a lot but not that abnormal? Shouldn't they be able to cast someone with that size to avoid CGI? I tried finding height distribution stats in Google but can't seem to find decent sources . It's not a big deal obv, I just found it to be a weird remark.

7 feet is a reasonable height for a NBA center.

This. A google search tells me that it was estimated that there were 2800 people over 7 feet tall (213.3 cm) in the world in 2012. Average height for men in the USA is 5 ft 9 1/2 (176 cm).

It's annoying because it was all just so lazy. They did all the hard stuff well and phoned in the screenwriting 101 stuff.

I suspect that Disney gave Abrams/Kasdan the parameters of the storyline as well as the main characters, so it was kind of paint by numbers. Which makes some of the writing even more inexcusable imo because it's not like they were tasked with coming up with an original story, it was more like putting a puzzle together.

NFW Disney execs told Kasdan & Abrams to rehash the plot of IV & VI just with a bigger Death Star.

And the script development process usually works the exact opposite. The script gets written (or at least the general outline) then studio execs start giving "notes". So they will often nitpick the details more than the overall arc.

Interesting! We always hear about the Sith betraying each other but never see it.

I think the plot was just the easiest way to get big action scenes cause we need those!!!

They could have made the movie mainly about trying to find Luke and still worked in a big battle scene without needing a new Death Star.

I wonder if anyone ever spoke up and said "Hey isn't this just the same plot as the original??"

Question for people who didn't like the plot, what kind of plot would you be happy with for 7? I also think the new death star and the similarities from 4 were weak but the rest of the execution of the film was great. I also understand that the film is going to be one of three with many questions opened in this film. Obviously most people are enjoying the movie and it's great it wasn't the POS that 1-3 were.

You may be right. How things usually work may not apply in this case though. I can see Disney plotting out a very long range strategy starting with this reboot. Could be wrong.

I wish they'd done what Joss Whedon loves doing, introduce someone as if they were going to be a major character then kill them halfway through. Almost did it with Poe then wimped out.

It lends more of a sense of jeopardy and risk to everything that happens. Did anyone really think Rey or Finn had any chance of dying?

Who? Max von Sydow? Never saw him as a major character. He had less than 5 minutes of screen time.

Poe didn't get much more before he disappeared.

This is a really good point and sums up why I remain in rustled.....there were things that I thought were done really well, but I can't get past fundamental errors like copying a tired plot, and the final battle.
