Yeah. And I enjoyed the **** out of all three of them. Everyone else would have too if they weren't held to some artificially high standard. Were they as good as the originals? No. Were they enjoyable. Yes.

Episode 1 was probably the best Star Wars movie tbh. Podracing > Jabba the Hutt any day of the week.

Are they trolling Lucas with that??

They really made a point of saying that they aren't making a CGI crapfest.

Still no indication that this movie even had a plot. Awesome.

Yeah, I'd prefer a 4 minute trailer that walks you throught the entire movie and gives up all the key moments. **** surprises.

Of course maybe you're right and there won't be any plot. Maybe the big twist is JJ wasn't getting the job done and Malick was dropped in mid way through to finish directing.

I have a good feeling about this one. Really looking forward to it, and I'd be surprised if it wasn't the 2nd or 3rd best movie in the series.

I think Star Wars is much more suited to what he did with Star Trek.

I'm very optimistic.

Everyone seems to really be digging that they are doing.

I liked the first Abrams Star Trek a lot, didn't see the second. However, I'm a sideline Star Trek fan, I like it in theory but have never watched more than a small handful of episodes. Some sick part of me wants to watch all 700+ episodes of all series though.

Your standards are way too low. It has the potential to be what you said and much more, and it wouldn't be all that difficult to pull off. So why settle for mediocrity?

wait what? You mean you don't have faith after he produced two amazing movies?

Oh, because he offended your nostalgia? Well, expect some more pain then.

I don't think either movie qualifies as amazing. The first one was OK and the second was not good.

It has nothing to do with nostalgia. There's a ****ton of canon between 7 tv series and a dozen or so movies. They've all got a certain tone to them and neither of jj abrams movies even comes close to capturing the feel of that universe.

He shot two pretty generic action movies that just happen to have ST characters in them.

So much this.

If the next Avengers movie is a romantic comedy, it doesn't matter if it's the best romantic comedy of the year.

And I agree, neither movie was particularly good anyway.

That's a stupid example, because that would be amazing.

I don't know if JJ Abrams is capable of making a great Star Wars movie or not, but listening to the guy talk about it & from what little I've seen so far, he seems to have a good feel for what made the original movies work.

Opinions vary on whether even George Lucas himself still does but he's completely out of the loop on this one in any case. As in his treatments were scrapped, he's not consulting & doesn't even know what it's about. There are better directors than JJ but I think you need someone who really "gets" Star Wars.

Not so much that they geek out and overcomplicate it but yet someone who understands they're pretty straightforward - classic/timeless story elements in a sci-fi action/adventure setting, a cast of heroes and villains, great designs, and set to a big score. You're going to have goofy names and some silly lines but they work if the rest does.

[Simple/straightforward in concept, not saying it's easy to pull off well because it's not.]

I'm still just as concerned as I was months ago about how many ideas and designs from the first trilogy are being rehashed/repeated (or rumored to be anyway). We'll see if that's true but otherwise I've been pretty happy with what's actually been shown and clearly they're not phoning it in. Hopefully the same is true with the screenplay.

Probably doesn't hurt that they have a much better budget to work with than what George Lucas had for the Prequels too. If that means they can put actors in uniforms in some places they would have otherwise used cartoon stormtroopers, fine by me. Pretty lol to look back and see that most of the big movies in 2005 cost more to make than Episode III.

Wow what a pathetic excuse for a "trailer." Great, now we know the black stormtrooper is also some type of jedi. Abrams, you clever tease you!

God this is just gonna suck, I know it.

The black stormtrooper is probably the son of Princess Leia and Lando. Han probably can't figure out why his "son" doesn't really look like him but Chewy screams and blah blah cool ships and stuff.
