Holy ****!

The "... who you really are!"

*smirk*

"What's that?"

Line.

If that's the best acting you got to put into a two-minute teaser, then may god help you on release day.

SOLO in the Star Wars font and style looks horrible imo. Not sure why.

Well hopefully the sabacc scene is more realistic than the lol poker scene from Casino Royale, not some incredibly unlikely Idiot's Array vs. Pure Sabacc cooler, I mean, does the audience just need to be spoon-fed everything?

Well that trailer didn’t evoke any feelings or vibe of Han Solo whatsoever, but I’m still encouraged by the darker, grittier look.

Hoping that the spinoffs will continue to offer more substance than the surgarcoated Disney crap that TLJ was full of.

To quote a youtoober i like: "Do we really need a Han Solo movie? What is it about his character that we don't understand?"

I think I posted this upthread but I don't really get why Disney greenlit the movie. Sure, there's name recognition, but there's huge name recognition with Star Wars anyway. Rogue One proved that you don't need to tie everything to already-known characters. The character of Han Solo is very tightly tied to Harrison Ford's portrayal of him. It seems like it just provides downside risk for a big backlash against the movie if people hate the new Han, while not providing much upside that I can see. Making spinoff movies about characters in a successful franchise is usually a good way to wring more money out of the franchise, and it seems like they just autopiloted their way into doing this even though it provides no benefit in this specific instance.

Good that they rush that solo movie, they obviously had other studios trying to release a solo movie before them

Of course, but that goes for any Star Wars movie, so it doesn't seem relevant to the question of why a Solo prequel in particular. Another Rogue One style standalone movie might make a better profit and/or do less damage to the franchise.

Nice shortsighted view that you seems to share with people in charge of disney.

No, dingleberry. I was trying to explain why Disney are doing it. Film is obviously a trainwreck and shouldn't have been made.

Profit obviously a strong motivator but there's also the opportunity to ruin a character people loved from the original trilogy. They seem to love doing that.

Probably wanted to prove that spin off movies would be well received so they started off with the one most likely to succeed.

Spoiler:
whoops

I'm not sure it's going to be a clear money maker for Disney. Rogue One breakeven was £700m, and it made £1.05bn.

Off the back of TLJ, no way Solo does those numbers. I think Disney will be breathing a huge sigh of relief if they break-even, and would snap £800m in the competitive summer market.

It is an interesting decision to go for summer rather than Christmas. Are there any sources explaining the logic behind it?

Lets pretend that people in charge of the project are smarter than us and that we cannot understand their smart choices.

As soon as i saw Donald Glover involved i would have put him in charge of that movie instead of the current train wreck, so my opinion is most likely worthless.

Spoiler:
Nah it s been proven that Donald Glover cannot fail at anything.

A perfunctory glance suggests the Christmas competition is stiffer than usual this year - New Harry Potter, Spider-Man, Aquaman and Mary Poppins.

I can't see Solo doing anything other than challenge Aquaman for the wooden spoon in that market.

This is obviously not accurate.

Also agree that the title screen, for whatever reason, looks completely ridiculous.

Of course it's going to make a profit, but at what opportunity cost? In the time they shot this trainwreck they could have made a better movie that would surely make a bigger profit.

And trainwreck is a pretty accurate word for that movie in the "So horrible you just can't look away" sense. At least for me it is. I've now watched the teaser a good ten times, always skipping ahead to the 59 second mark. It's so goddamn bad that I'm beginning to like it in a morbid kind of way.
