I guess the people who were cool with FTA being a scene-by-scene reboot of ANH will be cool.

Personally I wasn't, but I otoh a bunch of 7 year olds went home happy.

Calling TFA a scene-by-scene reboot of ANH is a bit much. Likewise for making a snarky remark that only 7 year olds enjoyed TFA.

You're allowed to dislike the movie of course. But why do you continue to invest time in the new star wars movies when you are so extremely negative about it?

Saw someone spoil the new one online a couple days ago. Well I'm assuming it was a spoil anyway.

I hope the new trilogy is all about Chewbacca. There are so many unresolved quesions about his character, like "why would a crossbow shoot lasers," "what is his real name," and "how many death stars has he blown up?"

Rogue one was possibly my third favorite in the franchise.

I guess im just a sucker for original material.

The Rian Johnson non-Skywalker new trilogy is very welcome news to me, especially if this new movie is as good as people are saying it is. And the early word is that it's not a reworked ESB (outside of some aesthetic similarities) which is also good. We'll know here pretty soon.

Rogue One was decent but more like filler for me, sort of like an EU book adapted to film, which seems to fit the idea of those anthology movies. But please no more goddamn Death Stars (or death planets either). At least give me that

Wouldn't work. Peter Mayhew (I think that's his name) IS Chewbacca. It's too big an ask to ask a new actor to recreate that magic.

Hmmm, what about a Death Moon? Death Station? Death Galaxy could be interesting.

tl; dr on reviews (I did not include anything that would be considered a major spoiler, but I've hidden it anyway)

Spoiler:
scores are overall slightly better than TFA, though most reviewers liked it significantly more than TFA. Major general points in multiple reviews:
*the movie has balls and has multiple major twists
*the movie hovers somewhere between best since ESB and best since ESB/ANH
*the movie is quite dark and Rian Johnson put his own stamp on it, but is still a Disney-film. also includes lots of humour
*the twists will be polarising to SW fans

If it's half as good as TFA it's a win. Don't understand how people can complain about the recent stuff after that trilogy of aids that preceded.

Man, I didn't really like this one that much. I wanted too so bad. Ep 7 was one of my favorites too.

First watch and it's just above episode 1 for me. Way too much campy humor. It was a good amnt for me in episode 7 but i thought they pushed it way too hard here. It just didn't feel like a star wars movie... :/

campy humor was way too much and distracted from the film. i totally agree. cut half of that stuff out and i think it's a much better movie.

it was definitely good* and ill see it again, but i didn't like it as much as TFA or rogue one.

*actually, the more i think about this, the more i think im referring to the last 1/3 of the movie. i think watching the first 1/3ish of it again will be a chore.

Yep. I liked the last third a decent amount. The beginning really drug its feet. By the time the casino sagment ended I was pretty tapped out. That was the part I disliked most, I think

Just got back from watching it and I hated it.

IMO there was a lot of filler in the movie that is ultimately not needed at all to advance the plot. It's like they have too many characters and didn't know what to do with them. On top of that they added more characters that I just don't care about.

Also the campy humor felt like the annoying cgi humor that was added in the original trilogy special editions by George Lucas. Just stupid eye rolling stuff.

Pretty much have to echo the sentiment so far. I actually have no problem at all with the main Luke/Rey/Kylo plot and thought it was well acted and well written. Unfortunately, I feel like virtually everything else around it was ****, and took me out of the movie completely. Way way way too much cutesy **** thrown in "for the kids" that doesn't fit at all with the more serious overtones of the movie.

(Really no spoiler here, keeping it vague) One main issue for me is that the whole concept of the FO's pursuit of the Resistance fleet, and what caused it to drag out so long, was totally contrived and made zero sense.

Really not sure if I have any need to see it again in the theater. Honestly my knee jerk opinion (and this is as a fanboy who defended a lot of TFAs faults and is way more likely to get caught up in the thrill of things and overrate the movie on first watch) is that it's maybe better than Eps I/II and that's it.

Spoiler:
It was pretty damn bad... and I loved Rogue One and enjoyed TFA.

The plot is just an absolute mess and it runs way too long for a movie which by the end, nothing significant has even happened.

Snoke ended up not being a badass at all and completely generic/meaningless. Finn's arc is horrible and also meaningless.

Zero character development. No new music of any significance. Even the prequel trilogy delivered in that department.

Just didn't feel like Star Wars at all to me.... acting was mostly great and there was a lot of cool stuff from a cinematographic prospective but very disappointing on the plot/pacing side.

it was pretty bad.

the good:
-the acting (especially Rey/Luke/Poe)
-yoda/luke scene
-Rey/Kylo/Luke storyline
-the Porgs were funny until they got carried away
-the red salt visuals

the bad:
-pacing, pacing, pacing
-pointless Finn/Rose plot (why couldn't Finn have just said - I know this! back with the empire I heard they were devoping a tracker, etc. - and then broke in with Poe?) Would have at least saved me 30 minutes
-Backup admiral lady plot was convoluted
-Leia space glide - wtf
-Animated llamas
-The dialogue ("Luke must be trying to give us a chance to escape!" )
-why is Rose a pilot?
-Nothing happened

Overall it sucked and it was a step back from a lot of what made the force awakens decent. It was basically a choppy series of short scenes that contained way too much slapstick comedy. To be honest I'm a little annoyed right now so I won't go through the tradition of comparing this to the originals, but all you need to look at is the sense of pace in Empire and compare it to the two minute scene back and forth amongst plots nobody cares about and you get the gist ( I mean slave racing llama escapes what the ****)
