The Disney exec guy said they were working on "a few" spinoff films yesterday, AICN is saying they're doing Yoda first.

By the way, before anyone gets any stupid ideas, **** the guys who played Jango and young Boba, and Hayden Christensen too while we're at it. Ewan I could see, if you can pull him off of whatever horrible crap he's starring in to star in Obi-Wan.

I'd like to see a spinoff that would explore Jabba the Hut's upbringing.

holy **** spinoffs make me angry, but if they did a boba fett movie based on the Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy, I might **** my pants with sheer joy. OMG that would be awesome. All time favorite star wars novels.

A young(er) Yoda jumping around and doing more lightsabre gymnastics?

Yeah, count me in.

I can't say I feel the need for more Yoda. But if they did make a movie, it would seem better to make it about a Yoda in his prime, not just slightly less-ancient Yoda. One minor nit about it in advance - they don't have to mix up the syntax in every single line. Even in Empire Strikes Back they let a few slide. Minor nit.

If they had a good run with the first few spinoffs there could be a lot of these. It's hard to say with the Star Wars franchise at this point. It's a given the new few feature films will make a ton of money but if they're not very good people will burn out fast. At least they seem to be picking interesting characters this time, not Ewoks and Droids.

I really loved the Thrawn books and I think JJ could make that story look super sharp.

I have never laughed more in a movie than when Yoda went nuts with a light saber. Bring on Star Wars, the comedy!

NO

I am not watching a spinoff. Just give us 3 new films, we don't want to see old man Ford reprise his role as Han Solo. If you look at my post a couple of pages back you can see I've already gave some pretty good ideas that disney could follow up on instead of this terrible spinoff idea they are thinking of.

While spin-offs of "young Han Solo", "young Boba Fett" and "young Yoda" do sound pretty lame, the general idea of stand-alone films in the Star Wars universe is great. Just hand the reigns over to good writer/directors and let them do their thing. There's a lot of potential, and I'm talking about people/places/time periods that have nothing to do with the 6-9 main films.

Given the time span for the "young Han Solo" and "young Boba Fett" films, wouldn't they be more Star Trek/Indiana Jones than Star Wars? There are basically no jedi in this time span, right? (Plus, Han seems somewhat unfamiliar with jedis in Ep.4, so I don't know much interaction you could have between him and some undisclosed jedi in the spin off)

Before people rush to condemn the spinoffs about the "young" Star Wars characters, don't forget that this has been pulled off successfully with other hugely iconic characters:

For proof of the potential of the Star Wars universe, see the Knights of the Old Republic games (the ones from 10 years ago, not the recent multiplayer game). Many people consider the first game to be the best Star Wars story since 1983 (or even 1980). They take place thousands of years before the trilogies.

Those many people need to read the Thrawn trilogy

Variety.com: Adam Driver to Play the Villain

Quote:
Sources tell Variety that while no deal is done yet, the “Girls” actor is close to signing on to play the villain in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode VII.” Exact details are unknown, but the character is said to be in the vein of iconic “Star Wars” villain Darth Vader.

Driver, 30, is the first cast member to be revealed for Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm’s highly-anticipated “Star Wars” installment, which will open in theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.

...Abrams recently announced that the script he co-wrote with Lawrence Kasdan was finished and that they would begin zeroing in on casting decisions soon. Michael Arndt wrote the original draft, with Kasdan and Abrams taking over last fall.

Haven't heard of him but whatever. They have a legitimate casting director this time. Plus Kathleen Kennedy as a producer, plus a director who has actually made a decent movie in the last 30 years. And George Lucas isn't writing.

I saw the news today and read tons of comments about how the dude is too ugly. What the hell is that all about? Especially for a villain role, lol.

+ 1. I had already been massively disappointed by the prequels to that point but that scene was the final twist of the knife. I was laughing and heartbroken at the same time.

I don't like the spinoff plan at all. Don't need any more ABC superhero movies.

I'm fine with the spinoff plan. I figure if they're going to milk backstories out of dead characters, better they do it outside of the main series. To me the spinoffs are just bonus content. If they suck it doesn't matter, sort of like the Ewoks movies or that Clone Wars cartoon movie.
