I wasn't impressed either, but then I remembered that teaser trailers are always like that because not much of the film is actually finished yet.

Seems like a nice change of pace imo. No death star or death world. Might actually be some character development.

The Luke Skywalker character may not even be in the Top 10 of the most interesting people in the Star Wars universe.

Disney really needed an animation series to bridge the gap between Ep 6 and 7.

Luke is probably in the top 2 for most popular though.

I think Disney have to be pretty careful they don't just treat him as a maguffin in 8 and 9 or they will piss a lot of fans off.

Yeah, teaser trailers are usually pretty light on content/hints. It says "tease" right in the name!!

Re: Luke, I think they are trying to thread the needle by not having him be a star in these new movies - but they obviously need him to tie the trilogies together. All these new characters, I'm guessing, will have stories play out in episode 9 but also beyond. So they need to spend time making sure they are the stars.

I'm guessing Luke hands off the baton/lightsaber in this movie. Maybe he dies a hero like Obi wan. But I really doubt he plays the main heroic role in 8 or 9 - that's for Rey.

Agreed Luke isn't the best character, but he's the easiest to relate to and everyone knows him. They are obviously using him so hopefully they do some interesting stuff with him.

Empire was my favorite and if they follow the formula then this should be a lot like empire. Luke filling a yoda/obiwan role could be awesome in so many ways and I'm really hoping that they do a good job.

Both episode 7 and rogue 1 were a let done for me though...

Nothing would send the fans home happier than Luke kicking some ass.

Taking a back seat to showcase Rey.... not so much.

Rogue One I saw twice at the cinema, and have seen a couple of times at home. It's a very satisfying movie.

Otoh, TFA.... I watched it a second time at home to see if my initial disappointment carried through to another viewing. It did. Tried to watch it a third recently, got bored after half an hour and switched off. I'm not sure it's even as good as TPM, which at least delivered a decent third act.

If the last jedi is anywhere near as formulaic as TFA then Luke will basically be Yoda.

I liked both Rogue One and TFA, and have seen each a few times, but I it's a lost cause to hope for anything as special as the original films.

Still, it's a universe which could potentially deliver a lot of good-not-great movies over time. And they aren't necessarily bound by other media if they choose, such as comic books, though I know they want to do more prequel-type things.

It's not like I'm being so overwhelmed with legendary awesome new films every year that movies like Rogue One will ever be a problem

Luke dies a hero, in this movie or the next. He becomes some combo of Obi Wan and Yoda, passing along the info he needs.

I just hope they do it better than Han

I didn't like episode 7 but this thing where Luke might be combining the light and dark sides of the force could be good

The new animated series was way more compelling than TFA.

Luke gets barely trained and now he is some huge Jedi force?

This seems defensible. He didn't complete his training, true, but he was also a Skywalker and had what seemed like quality 1-on-1 time with the best possible teacher. Then he was clearly outmatched against Vader, and later woefully unprepared for the Emperor. Now you're talking about a guy with those experiences plus 30 or so years under his belt.

And again, he's a Skywalker. The whole Force thing seems far more dependent on the person's innate natural connection with it than their training, similar to athletes (or maybe poker players).

Plus now with Episode 7, where apparently you can do jedi mind tricks and handle a lightsaber right out of the gate...

Exactly. Rey beat a Skywalker who had been trained from an early age by another Skywalker ~10 mins after she heard about The Force.

Clearly wrt The Force, nature>nuture.

If you watch/read the prequels, books and the animated series all Jedi have been extensively trained especially in light sabre combat.

Luke (and offspring) becoming instant Jedi masters just seems foolish.

I've just watched a YouTube video stating that Snoke is the Emperor. And that Snoke takes over Rey's mind whilst Rey and Luke are fighting Kylo Ren and the more powerful Von (Benicio Del Torro)
