At least the commentary track will sound like an arrested development episode.

You also can't trust anything the studios say about budgets or break even costs. The movie industry's creative accounting practices are infamous for making sure no movie ever actually makes a profit on paper.
This. They also do it to royally **** any actor with backend money. Oh we made 400M dollars on this movie but accounting wise we lost 30M. Studios are insanely corrupt.

Kanan

Expected, but not right away like that.

Just a few more episodes of the best Star Wars since Disney bought the damn thing left. Hoping we get some Asohka closure too.

That's why big stars get their points from gross as reported in Variety

I was skeptical of the Solo movie, but then I saw the preview, and by gum if they have Woody Harrelson actually delivering the line "I'm puttin' together a crew!" you know it's going to be something special.

I've enjoyed every Star wars movie (except attack of the clones holy ****) and I'm not watching this unless the reviews are stellar

Yeah, professional reviews are not worth the paper fiber they are printed on sent through, these days. And that's not too surprising either. There's at the very least some implied corruption going on (as I have no evidence for explicite corruption). Think about the state of contemporary Hollywood cinema, there's nigh an original IP in sight these days, at least not in the "nerdy" genres. It's all remakes, rehashes, redos etc, sometimes rehashes of rehashes for ****'s sake. And that's been the state of Hollywood cinema for what now, ten - fifteen years?

If you were a professional movie critic having to watch and write about all that drivel for years on end, would you undermine your own job by (rightfully) ****ting on all the garbage that gets shat out of Hollywood, or would you turn a blind eye?

And then there's also the political virtue signalling to be done, of course (which is also career-essential for most of these guys). So if you didn't like TLD, you're obviously a misogynistic, sexist, Alt-right Nazi.

ROFL! Now it looks like he's scared and running away from something.

Those are Spanish (or maybe Portuguese, not sure) posters, so this could not be a global thing. Either way, current Zeitgeist "won't anybody please think of the children??!!?!" moral hysteria is hilarious as ****.

At this point I feel that it's likely to be so bad that i'll be incredibly receptive to absolutely any redeeming features it may have

Just had a second viewing of Ep.8. It was pretty painful. I think my original review stands up well to scrutiny, except the final line about it not being disappointing - it clearly is.

Won't bother with Solo until I can see it for free.

I think it’s safe to say we’re at prequel level for this trilogy. While the prequels had obvious major flaws, I did care about the stories of Qui Gon, Obi Wan, Mace and even Padme. However, I really couldn’t care less about Rey or Poe, and I just feel sorry for John Boyega to have to work with such **** writing. The only character to step it up here was Kylo Ren, and that was mainly down to Driver really wringing the life out of what he had to work with.

I also felt the really mishandled the Luke story, and Rey’s training. They just spent the whole time arguing and not doing anything. Luke deserting his friends and family for *reasons* is totally out of character, and the only redeeming feature was the cool Jedi mind trick he did with Kylo, which I felt really set the scene for an epic confrontation in Ep.9…. Until they cut to him dying. With Carrie Fisher’s unfortunate passing, this leaves us with half a dozen characters no one cares about to take on and defeat the Empire in Ep.9.... I think it’s safe to say that at this point, most fans are hoping the Empire wins.

Overall, this is more Justice League than Avengers. Finn and Rey are no more going to carry solo movies than Aquaman or Robotman, so I think Disney have a real problem moving forwards in creating interesting stories. Of course, a back story of how Kylo turned would have been cool, but that’s a wash now with the amount of dumb exposition in the film – why did they even have to have three difference interpretations of the event? Just leave it to people’s imagination and you then still have a potentially interesting thread to pick up at a later date. Imagine if during Obi Wan's "he betrayed and murdered your father" they had shown, rather than told. It basically nerfs one of the best reveals in movie history, and there is no angle for the prequels (ok, not necessary a bad thing....)

Oh yeah, and what happened to the Knights of Ren? I mean, I guess they could be holding them back for 9, but this movie really needed some more interesting angles set up for 9 and there would have been lots of potential threads they could have set up in this movie (Knights of Ren betraying Kylo; Luke had he lived turning some of them back to the light).

Overall, not disappointing but it's laughable that some people who get paid money to write about movies were saying this is better than ESB.
