The threat of physical violence towards the end was stupid and unnecessary, but otherwise, good for Marcy's Diner.
Great post, you summed up my feelings better than I could myself.

Also jump to 35 seconds in for laughs.

This is a common problem in restaurants and I love the owners response, take your kids to Chuck E Cheese and let them run amok

As all children should know, actions have consequences.

Also, mom looks like so that lady:

I was immediately on the owner's side when I read it was after 40 mins of crying.

****ty parents can **** off. No one wants to hear your little **** factory crying for that long. If you were a responsible parent then it wouldn't have lasted more than 3 mins.

Yeah pretty much, unless it really was 40 min, then the owner did nothing wrong, but people love to increase the duration of the crying by about 300% with these stories.

I'm just so happy that the public seems to be on the owner's side, even though the owner is clearly some degree of insane herself. We did it.

Outrage makes for good clickbait, which is what helps is spread so much.

Twitter and Facebook gives every petty, narcissistic malcontent an avenue to be drama queens.

Everyone is a special snowflake and every slight or annoyance encountered is the greatest human tragedy ever. "Someone was rude to me in a restaurant!" Heavens, hopefully you went straight to grief counseling. First world problems at their finest. Pretty sure the hundreds of millions of people on the planet who struggle to get enough food don't' give a **** that your restaurant experience was not as pleasurable as you would have hoped.
This X 1,000,000. Narcissism and sense of entitlement is the way of the internet, and by extension, the way of the modern world.

It sucks when kids cry, buts its normal and not the kids fault and yelling at them is just horrible parenting (and even worse when its coming from a stranger).

Thank god for this post; I was skimming this thread and scratching my head at all the support for the lunatic restaurant owner.

Of course a parent ought to comfort/ berate / remove a child when they get upset in a public place. At no point is it acceptable for a stranger to yell into a crying infant's face. The parents may well be terrible in this case, but anyone congratulating the restaurant owner is an imbecile.

Restaurant owner is well within her rights to refuse service and ask these people to leave. Good job. Hell, if I owned a restaurant, I'd ban kids under a certain age (assuming it is legal). Now to find an airline that does this...

Story from last year

Restaurant bans loud children, strollers, booster seats from dining room

Which I don't think is the story I was remembering initially. So it appears it's happening periodically.

There are dozens of posts itt congratulating the restaurant owner on yelling at a crying 2yo. Whether it happened or not doesn't really change my opinion of those posts!

The owner yelled. Just not into the toddler's face. She was across the room.

5 feet away (the owners own words) is across the room?

the story also varies from "THIS NEEDS TO STOP!" (owner's version) and "SHUT THE HELL UP!" (mother's version) second is much worse. considering the crazy facebook rant i would say the 2nd is probably closer to what actually happened.

FWIW, from reading a bunch of stuff yesterday, it sounds like this may have all started after 4-5 minutes of crying, not 40.

I agree with the people saying both sides seem terrible here.

Anyone interested in this story should definitely read this article. So much gold from the diner owner:

Quote:
In another development Wednesday, a Facebook group calling itself Mama and Baby Protest at Marcy’s said it is planning a protest for the diner on Sunday from 7-10 a.m.

“Bring your babies and protest this ladies awful antics! After what I’ve seen this afternoon, I would starve before eating her food. But we can make sure to let her know our thoughts on her attitude!” one post said.

Neugebauer was taking it in stride.

“That’s totally OK with me. Bring cash,” she told WGME TV.

Quote:
In an interview later Wednesday afternoon, Neugebauer elaborated on her pipe-down-or-get-out philosophy.

“I think what everyone is forgetting, it’s my restaurant, my rules,” she said from behind a hot grill. “If you don’t want to play by the rules, I’ll happily call Portland PD to escort your (expletive) out. … If it seems like I’m getting a little pissed off, it’s because I am.”

Wow! Who knew calling out ****ty parenting made you a bully? Whatever. ....
For the record! I'm a foul-mouthed bitch with a short fuse! Sarcastic, blunt, brutally honest & real. My boy Jesse's mother called this morning...she said "Darla, I can't believe you didn't yell "shut the f*#@ up" See, everyone knows that's my favorite word. Always has been. ...Lava soup didn't even make me stop saying it!. But the fact is MY DINER....MY RULES The only thing I am sorry for is that child has to grow up with such terrible parents I have a lot of great kids that eat here.....sometimes they do have a bad day & mom or dad takes them outside no one enjoys dinning with screaming of any kind.....and after 40 min of her, 2 minutes of me..peace was restored! As far as I am concerned. ..Won & done!
Wednesday's specials. .SHAVED ham & chz omelet. Chocolate chip / banana pancakes & crantastic salad wraps for lunch. Chocolate chip muffins & tomato soup

No phone orders thanks to all you funny guys calling for 3 pancakes...Oh & for the pancake party on the 31st bring cash! No credits here! Or I'll get to hang out with your kid while you go get money! Hope you all have a great day

How can anyone think the owner isn't at least partially wrong here after reading how they represent themselves and their restaurant?

I think the parents likely needed to step up to the plate sooner, but the owner comes off so nuts that I'm automatically assuming they are wrong. The parents, probably, but not necessarily.

C'mon...who hasn't been out to dinner and had to endure a screaming kid? It happens. I fly a couple times a month. Sometimes kids scream. It doesn't mean I'm gonna yell at the kid. I might shoot a dirty look at a parent but most times they're helpless in these situations.

i can think of a lot of things that would annoy me more than a crying toddler at a restaurant. having to wait 40 minutes for pancakes is the first that comes to mind.
