Most of his stuff is not funny. But his bit about working at Burger King is good.

There are far funnier comedians out there but because Dane Cook is handsome and yells a lot and uses hand gestures, his "act" comes across well on TV. A dryer comedian like Jim Gaffigan is funnier but he looks likea Q-tip and isn't as flamboyant.

The animation is horribly unfunny. The bit isn't bad - I had to stop watching to enjoy it.

Anyone who thinks Dane Cook > The Daily Show should be banned from commenting on comedy ever again.

I think he's funny. He appeals to casual, younger comedy fans than guys who know like 50 comedians and can recite all their jokes

Heh, funny you should say that.

My introduction to him was an HBO special I happened across. All I could think was "Wow. Look at all these dudes feigning laughter at this crap so they can get laid by these dumb, albeit hot, bitches." And I had never heard of him before so I had no prejudice.

I saw Carlin live once (was on shrooms, btw- so awesome) and the first half of the show seemed like silly material designed for the broads. Lolling did not ensue until the second half of the show when he started aiming straight between the piss-flaps. The most oxygen depleting lols ever followed.

I was expecting that the obviously popular, arena-filling Cook would follow the same formula. He, of course, did not.

bad (popular) stand up: dane cook, robin williams, kathy griffin, lisa lampinelli, greg giraldo, basically any of the roast comedians, larry the cable guy but thats obv, more. basically 95% of stand up comedians are crap crap crap.
I like Lisa Lampinelli a lot. Kathy Griffin is pretty awful although I like her tv show.

The best three stand up comics ever are Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock. The best stand-up performance ever was probably Bring The Pain by Chris Rock. He was clicking on practically every joke. The most consistently funny comedian ever is Dave Chappelle. The coolest comedian ever is Eddie Murphy. If I had to pick someone who had the potential to be the best comedian ever I think it's Dave. Chris Rock made too many weak movies.

I wish he would come back and do something at least. He needs to realize that Oprah was a jerk in that interview. After she told him to "be responsible" he should have started ragging on her. Dave is going through a phase where he's strugging with how successful he is. He's hanging around with a bunch of racists like Mos Def and Kanye West who hide behind their racism through activism and come accross as really standoffish. The problem is they see people who are against the festering negative aspects of black culture as racists when in fact they are actually justified in their thinking. All those people he is hanging around with have giant chips on their shoulders. He feels like if he ditches them he is selling out. So he's going through a period of confusion.

Lisa Lampinelli has the highest chance of being the best female comic ever, especially if she branched out. Her delivery is very good and her defense is very strong.

You are really bad at stand-up comedian analysis.

^^ real quickly wrt Lampinelli, she's terrible and her jokes aren't funny if you've seen her more than once since all she does is basically repeat all the same jokes. She also totally plays up the "I am a super crass and nasty fat broad". She's probably one of the worst female comedians to get popular ever.

Anyway, we've had Dane Cook threads before here. I've always thought he was an overrated comedian who was very gimmicky. Reading through this thread it seems like most agree with my sentiment. I don't think he's really all that funny either, he's just humorous. He's done a good job marketing himself though, and his presentation makes for easy viewing, so whatever.

nice post xkf, agree big time on the bad comedian list.

Lisa Lampinelli is funny for the 1st half hour, after which you wish you could trade places with Helen Keller.

Love the fact that before he gets the "joke" portion of the "joke" it's dead silence in the audience. I imagine a lot of his shows are filled with those moments.

I give Dane Cook a lot of credit for going back to work as a stand-up after reaching the heights he hit and falling down. He still hits the Laugh Factory and does sets - you have to respect that if you are a fan of comedy whether or not you are a fan of Dane Cook's comedy.

Some comics take 30 years before they find what really works. It is entirely possible that we havent seen Dane's best yet.

I'm not defending Dane Cook, but The Laugh Factory and similar venues tend to be places for comedians to drop in and try out new material, so these types of shows are going to get a few more bombs than a show when a comedian is on tour.

Marc Maron's interview with Dane Cook was pretty good. Everyone who is interested in comedy at all should be listening to Marc Maron in general (you can skip his intros and just get to the interviews).
