Every time I've watched his standup shows with others, everyone laughs throughout. His over animated presentational style is kind of annoying, but I don't think he deserves the hate he's gotten.

I'm sure you really think he sucks. But with Dane, there's a whole new level of hate and I firmly believe it's just plain cool to hate him.

There are "hate this" trends all the time. It was Juno a few years ago, then Slumdog Millionaire after that. Regardless, we always come back to it being trendy to hate Dane Cook.

But how annoying is the "it's just cool to hate the 'it's just cool to hate Dane Cook guy' guy?"

He is worse at performing comedy than anyone else has ever been at doing anything, with the possible exceptions of Katherine Heigl acting and Wade Phillips coaching

I have seen the Boston show and agree it was awful. I have also seen him do some great performances.


I have also seen some fairly popular comedians do some very bad stuff that made it to DVD.

I think that sort of proves it's trendy to hate Dane Cook.

I think he's been very lucky in the success to talent ratio. This is why people hate him.

I think some of his stuff is funny, like a lot of other comics I like.

i think he sucks, but I think his "nothing fight" and "**** on the coats" routines are hilarious. After hearing these and getting two of his cds, I listened to about 2 hours of him on a car trip one time and everything else sucked.

"Her vagina was so bad, she must have washed her vagina... with a dirtier vagina." Juvenile and misogynist? Probably. But it made me chuckle...

Again, I'm not a fan and not defending him. Just saying the hate is partly due to he sucks and partly due to trendy backlash. That's all.

Groupthink clearly exists, but I don't think it's often in the name of "being cool". It's a think that happens, and shared opinions get formed, but I don't think it's so intentional or with that specific motivation. There's likely even people who haven't ever heard Cook's stuff, and assume he sucks because that's what everybody said. I just dispute that there's somebody who listened to his CD, liked it, but then goes off and claims he sucks just fit in with the cool kids.

Also, Dane Cook really ****ing sucks.

The reason no one ever ran up to you and asked for a high five is because people that think its cool to hate really hate people that high five.

i dont know anyone IRL who hates him, some people dont care for him but the level of hate he gets on this forum has always surprised me, maybe all my IRL friends just suck. i think hes pretty hilarious, probably very overrated but w/e, im not that into comedy and he makes me laugh so hes good in my book.
