Crossing the Mississippi
I have a friend, a snowbird, who's traveling from Arizona to New Jersey next week. Does anyone have any ideas on where he can cross the Mississippi without being in danger of flooding or levees breaking?
Much appreciated.

I-270 is in St Louis. From what I've heard it should be fine. A bunch of levees broke upstream in Iowa, so they've reduced the river crest height estimates for STL.

Re: Crossing the Mississippi
270/255 is the best place to cross it. 70 might be ok but make sure to fill up on gas as you won't want to stop anywhere near that bridge.

I bet I've crossed the Mississippi more than anyone that reads this thread. Does that make me cool?

Crossed it virtually every day September through May (and one summer) in Saint Cloud for years, plus many more times just going in and around Minneapolis. We're close.

Re: Crossing the Mississippi
Thanks for all the replies, both serious and smart assed ones. LOL
I'm a west coast girl, really don't know much about the midwest and with all the flooding and levees breaking, I seriously thought crossing the Mississippi river might be difficult if not impossible at some points.
Sorry if I sounded stoopid.

Re: Crossing the Mississippi
This is an awesome thread. You could always come down to New Orleans. The river levees were like the only ones that didn't break. Or go to Corpus Christi and swim across the Gulf to avoid the river altogether.

Re: Crossing the Mississippi
The man and the chicken cross the river, (the fox and corn are safe together), he leaves the chicken on the other side and goes back across.
The man then takes the fox across the river, and since he can't leave the fox and chicken together, he brings the chicken back.
Again, since the chicken and corn can't be left together, he leaves the chicken and he takes the corn across and leaves it with the fox.
He then returns to pick up the chicken and heads across the river one last time.

My mother lives in Bettendorf, Iowa and drives to Moline, IL for work (15 mins). Different states FTW. Anyway, she's in the middle of the whole flooding drama and has no problem crossing the river every day, so I'm not sure where MissT got the idea that this was a crisis.

Somebody explain this spam approach to me. Obviously it just searches forums for the word mississippi, but where's the profit margin in it's link to treatment centers?
