i just moved and this is happening to me too. i think its mainly just at&t/u-verse that does this. i would guess that they have their own collections department or something because mine was into collections after less than 3 months and afaik they never made any attempt to contact me for it. my gf returned the stuff for me and they said they will remove the charge.

btw my understanding is that this is EXTREMELY commonplace with at&t. i know somebody who returned all the equipment, the place gave them a copy of the full checklist stating that everything had been returned correctly and they still got charged for something a few months later and were getting collection calls.

The one thing Comcast did say was that it was definitely not for equipment.

Same thing happened to me. I think I posted about it earlier ITT. I settled up with Charter after moving, got a receipt showing a zero balance, didn't hear anything until two years later when my credit report showed a collections account for $99 owed to Charter. Called Charter to work it out but they didn't want anything to do with it by that point and I refuse to negotiate with a collections agency. Filed a dispute and it was removed temporarily but it's back on there now. I figure my options are either negotiate a pay-for-delete or just suck it up. My credit score is still low 700s and I'm not planning on any major purchases anytime soon so I'm leaving it alone for now.

Considering this card from the CreditKarma site:

http://www.barclaycardarrival.com/ar...-rich-rewards/

I live oversees and am looking for a card with no foreign transaction and the best travel rewards so I can redeem free travel from Asia to US. Does anyone have a better recommendation?

Also, are these types of travel rewards redeemable on any airline? Is it better to get a card that is only good for one airline (like AA)?

Thanks for the help, I'm a bit new to this.

The arrival card is a great card for most travel stuff. It's not better to get a cobranded card unless you always fly the same airline. The only place where it's better is if you would redeem points/miles for first class or business, or if you always buy last minute expensive tickets.

There are several cards w/ no foreign tx fees.

i'll preface this by saying i have no experience with airline miles:

My wife and I are going to take our 2 oldest kids to Disneyland in september. We are piggybacking on to a business trip. Is there a credit card offer where i would be able to get free airfare or atleast heavily subsidised roundtrip tickets for one or more of us? I'm not even sure where i would start looking for something like this.

Looks to be ~15k-20k rapidrewards for the roundtrip (without knowing your exact dates) on southwest. That's about $250-$300 RT/pp.

Best bet would be to get the southwest cc from chase which has a 50k signup bonus after spending $2k in 3 months. There is an annual fee of $69 or $99 (depending on version) but each year you get a bonus amount of miles that offsets or partially offsets the fee.

50k should get you at least two members there and back free, and might get you a one way for a 3rd person, depending on the flight options available. If you and your wife both got the card you'd be able to take everyone with plenty of points to spare.

Here is a example signup link for the $99 version: https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/sou...an?ref=AirTran

Thanks, JL, i'll look in to that one. I guess maybe its to late to have this for a mid september trip though. We just found out about about the conference a week or so ago, so its not like i could have planned ahead. I guess maybe i could try to find a card that has rewards to pay for the hotel with?

It depends how quickly you could get the spending done. I think if you got the card now, it would arrive by 7/10, and if you can do the $2k in the first statement cycle you would get the points posted in August.

Regardless, even if it doesn't work out this time, the SW card is a good one for you to have out of IND because they serve the most places.

referred the wife, should bink the 100, 76, 50, and 40

the 76 showed up instantly and is yielding interest

50 and 40 are the referral bonuses, something like that. it's funny to me how many ppl don't take a max of 30 minutes of their time with stuff like this for peace of minds sake. "I like having one account"

ok

Yeah, it's pretty crazy when people turn these down without a good reason. Unfortunately I can't do it because I opened 360 accounts for the Black Friday savings specials.

found this today - Open an optional savings account currently offering a 5.00% APY for balances up to $5,000 (new)

this is on Paypal Prepaid Mastercard which i am not familiar with. the 5% APY jumped out to me though, that is unheard of in today's market no?? 24 month cds are currently yielding like 1.25% at best, so whats up with this?? 5% is quite attractive

$5 monthly fee though for having this prepaid card and the fine print for the 5% APY saving account:

The optional Savings Account is made available to Cardholders through The Bancorp Bank; Member FDIC. To participate in the Savings Account program, Cardholder must consent to and continue receiving Communications from us in electronic form. If Cardholder is subject to Internal Revenue Service backup withholding at the time of the request to open a Savings Account, the request will be declined. Interest is calculated on the Average Daily Balance(s) of the Savings Account and is paid quarterly.
If the Average Daily Balance is $5,000.00 or less, the interest rate paid on the entire balance will be 4.91% with an annual percentage yield (APY) of 5.00%.
If the Average Daily Balance is more than $5,000.00, the interest rate paid on the portion of the Average Daily Balance which exceeds $5,000.00 will be 0.49%, and the interest paid on the portion of the Average Daily Balance which is $5,000.00 or less will be 4.91%. The annual percentage yield (APY) for this tier will range from 5.00% to 0.72%, depending on the balance in the Savings Account.
The interest rates and APYs of each tier may change. The APYs were accurate as of June 1, 2013. These are promotional rates and may change without notice pursuant to applicable law. No minimum balance necessary to open Savings Account or obtain the yield(s). Because Savings Account funds are withdrawn through the Card Account (maximum 6 such transfers per calendar month), Card Account transaction fees could reduce the interest earned on the Savings Account. Card Account and Savings Account funds are FDIC-insured upon verification of Cardholder’s identity. For purposes of FDIC coverage limit, all funds held on deposit by the Cardholder at The Bancorp Bank will be aggregated to at least the coverage limit, currently $250,000.00.

I hear you there, I was an ING Direct customer before they merged with CapitalOne 360 so I couldn't whore those either.

Question about using ultimate rewards for max value. We are taking a trip to Asia over christmas, and I want to use my UR. I notice that its a much better deal to trade them to Korean Air and book with miles instead of just booking and using the points value.

If it shows a RT flight as 125k miles, but I only have like 75k miles, can I still use them and pay the difference?

Where are you going in Asia and where are you leaving from? Are you particularly attached to Korean Air?

I am planning a trip from dfw-bangkok around mid december. The only reason I figured Korean was I saw them linked to UR and it is so much nicer than flying american for that long ass flight. Essentially I care about getting the cheapest possible flight and using my UR points most though.

wife and i want to take a trip to new york. whats the best way to use UR points for hotels in new york city? we have around 90k miles

Hyatt will be the nicest and the cheapest - Andaz 5th, just went up in category, so the nice places cost 25k Hyatt Points. Alternatively, Hyatt Place Midtown is 20k and usually goes for $300+/night so might be a decent redemption.

If you have the time, its probably a big points savings to keep the UR for something else and get the Hyatt card for 2 nights anywhere + the anniversary night.
