Haven't been here in a while, so I need to catch up, but out of laziness, here's a question:

I rarely use cash for anything anymore, all CC. Including work expenses, I'm putting around $3500 a month on cards, usually my Chase card but that's only because I needed it a year ago for a bunch of no interest credit, and I've just been using it since the balance was paid off. So...

What's the best card for me? My credit score is tits, if that makes a difference.

You should be targeting intro bonuses. Lots of free money out there that will be worth way more than the recurring benefits of any single card. Google the current offers and pick a few that have the cash/travel/whatever bonuses you can make the most use out of.

p2p some light reading FYI: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/ensur...ctivated-tips/

Sparks: Bonus whoring, otherwise a 2% type card (Blue for Business, Double Cash, Freedom UL, etc) unless your spending is in bonus categories.

Just the name "swagbucks" sounds shady as hell.

I tried to sign up for a Kredit Karma account but it said my info was already linked to another email address. The email address is my ex wife's email address. We got divorced more than two years ago and I assume she did this when we were getting divorced but has probably been getting info on me ever since? I already opened a ticket with Kredit Karma to have the account deleted. We are not on good terms at all. Is what she did legal? My move?

Set up a credit sesame account using her info?

LOL maybe. I did open a credit sesame account so it looks like she didnt open one of those too.

CreditKarma suspended the account and I have to send them documentation to get it opened up with my login info.

Better news.. I got approved for an Amex Platinum. I travel a lot so I think I can get enough benefit out of the card to justify the $550 sign-up fee.

It isn't that challenging to extract the value. Better yet is if you frequently fly out of or through cities with the Centurion Lounge...decent grub to be had and without the rugrats often associated with some other lounge offerings.

$200 is eaten up quickly with the Uber benefit, which also works for UberEats.

The airline credit has been devalued somewhat through the past few years but that is an additional $200 to be had.

I've largely ignored my credit but have built my score up to around 750 solely on the back of student loans and as an AU on my mom's card. Now I'm looking at getting into the game in earnest and am wondering where might a good starting point be? Chase Freedom seems like a good, safe bet? Ultimately want to be pocketing cash back and travel rewards.

I'll wade through the thread more later but wanted to throw this out there.

What is your typical spending pattern and do you do much traveling?

@dcm depends on how many cards you want total and what your actual goals are. Freedom is probably not the best card to start with unless you are getting a few.

Apparently there is a chance to get a 2nd bonus with the Amex Gold card (50k for $2k spend). I just applied and was approved. More info: http://frequentmiler.boardingarea.co...uage-targeted/

Also, if anyone is looking to get the Delta Amex Platinum (regular or business), the 70k point bonus is going for a few more days. Send me a PM for a referral link.

If you’re putting $3500 on CC every month, I suggest using the amex prg card. It’s a charge card so you gotta pay your balance in Full every month. You can get double points some purchases like gas, and restaurants I believe. Also, airline credit every year to an airline of your choice up to $100 every new calendar year. I usually use southwest and buy southwest gift cards worth up to $100.

I know I'm late to this, but honestly, just gobble up as many big sign-up bonuses as you can. Rinse and repeat every ~6 months. You get so much more value from that than worrying about a % or two on this or that category. That said, when it's close, target cards that will reward you the most when you default to them (read: the time between app sprees, when you're not clearing bonuses.) There are multiple 2% everything cards. There are multiple cards that reward more than that on various categories like gas, groceries, travel, utilities, etc.

A couple of good resources to see what the best current offers are would be r/churning and doctorofcredit.

have Amex premium gold rewards and do not want to pay AF of $195. only owned less than one year and will hopefully be able to product change(downgrade). I want to take advantage of $100 airline credit (incidentals basically, right?) and don't plan on flying by July when AF posts. What is the easiest way to take advantage of the $100 before I downgrade or cancel?

Make sure you know which airline is selected and then purchase a gift card from that airline's website. You can either keep the card to use in the future or sell it for ~$75-80 online.

Anyone up on the new Marriott card? I have the existing chase Marriott and the Amex SPG, need to figure out where to go from here. Hoping I can drop both and get the 100k sign up for the new Marriott but not sure - need to do some research

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/poten...rriott-merger/

https://frequentmiler.boardingarea.c...f-opportunity/

There have been a few posts about it from bloggers. Personally, I've had both SPGs and both Marriott cards in the last 24 months, so I'm not eligible for anything but the Ritz Carlton card. I might try and take advantage of the Ritz 2 nights, but we will see.

Definitely will keep an eye out to see if they have a new Marriott card that comes out that's not subject to 5/24.

Great links, thanks. I think I just need to sit down and do some math to figure out path forward. If I cancel my existing Marriott right now (have had it 1 year), think I'll be able to sign up for the new one with a signup bonus in May?

Starwood merger seems fine, but SPG Amex significantly devalued. Amex seems to be on the way down, the platinum annual fee is just ridiculous; unless you travel constantly I don't see the point.

Most Chase cards currently have a 24 month clause about bonuses. If you've received a bonus on that card in the last 24 months, you will be able to open the card, but you won't be eligible for the bonus.
