Need to cancel AMEX Plat within a week or i'm stuck with the fees. 99% sure im closing it regardless of what offer they can give me. What AMEX card should I be looking to replace it with that earn MR? I xferr'd my MR points out to BA when they were running a 40% bonus, but still I'd like to have a card that gets MR to take advantage of the random Amazon promos, etc

I have platinum but think the gold is fine for people who don't travel a ton. The only way the absurd platinum annual fee makes sense is if you take advantage of airport lounges and the fine hotels program.

Any other options besides an airline gift card? Maybe an Uber gift card?

I'd get an orbit Expedia etc gift card

Do purchases through MileagePlusX count towards the travel credit? Gift cards through that seems like a no brainer

Is buying a $600 Amazon giftcard for myself online not subtle enough? I have about $1000 left to spend to max out my 5% cashback for DiscoverIT this quarter. I'm planning on doing the other $400 at Target.

I've been using the card for most purchases for a couple years. And my spend was low this month because I had to change card numbers while out of town and couldn't activate it.

Afaik no need to be subtle on the 5% categories. Just go for it

AMEX lady suckered me in with a $300 statement credit, lol. Only had $3,300 in spend on it YTD. Guess i'll keep the card open for another year. This time I'm going to be smart and move my statement close date towards end of the year so I have more time in January 2019 to double dip the $200 airline credit.

FYI, my wife just had her travel credit reupped on the sapphire reserve. She is downgrading so she bought an Uber gift card.

I read that they will give a grace period on the annual fee. Anyone have experience with that...hers was charged on 1/1 last year.

Question: the only card I have and use is a Discover it, however in my "FICO scorecard" on my Discover account it says I have 4 total credit accounts (and revolving utilization % is a fraction of what it would be if the Discover were my only account). I don't doubt I have other cards somewhere, but I have no idea what they are. How can I find out all my credit accounts and exactly how much credit I have available on each of them?

Once per year for each of the three agencies. By staggering your requests among them, you can get one every four months.

And also be sure to go to Innovis (the 4th major CRA) to get the report there. While used infrequently for decisioning, I have seen major lenders who pull soft from them and do also report there...

Some data points to share, mostly redundant but fresh.

My wife successfully spent her travel credit on an Uber gift card. It can be used on both rides and ubereats.

She called and downgraded her csr to the freedom unlimited and will not get the annual fee. This way she got $600 in travel credits and the 100k bonus and the $80 tsa pre credit for the single annual fee. Pretty sweet.

There is a 60 day grace period to downgrade or cancel and not be charged the AF, but the freedom is giving 5% cashback on gas this quarter so it is a better card for us right now in the rotation.

Now we need to complete our spends on the 4 sw cards and get our companion passes.

Happy new year all

Freedom unlimited does not have 5% categories. Did she downgrade to the Freedom or the freedom unlimited?

My mistake, Freedom. Just confirmed.

The categories are broader than I expected also. This quarter it's gas, cable/internet/phone service and chase/android/Apple/Samsung pay. It's only up to $75 back a quarter though.

You all make it tough on the newbs trying to up their credit card game. These are some of the acronyms used in just the last few posts. I do appreciate the information I am able to extract.

BA (Bank of America?)
MR (Money? rewards)
CRA (credit report agency)
GC
csr
AF (annual fee)

There is no hard limit with the AXP charge product. Or perhaps more correctly, I have never seen anyone with a hard limit. There may be an exposure threshold, but that can be a moving target.

The $1K on SPG makes little sense other than if they are not putting much into those given that SPG is not going to be an ongoing entity in the very near future.
